A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 315 Impulse

“Ring, ring!” Just then, Brendon’s phone rang.

Without a word, he knew it was Shannon calling.

Ranita avoided eye contact. “Brendon, I need some rest. Can you please go outside to take the call?”

She didn’t want to hear any more of their lovey-dovey talk and cutesy pet names.

The ringing continued.

Brendon had no choice but to step out and answer. “Shannon, what’s up?”

“Brendon… are you at the hospital? Cindy said she saw you here. Why didn’t you come find me?” Shannon’s voice was sweet and sultry, but Brendon felt annoyed.

“I have something going on.” He paused before asking in a hoarse voice, “Do you need anything?”

Shannon immediately sounded hurt, “Brendon… can’t I just call without having anything wrong? I’m so bored here alone at the hospital. You won’t even come keep me company!”

“But I know your work is busy,” she added quickly. “You don’t have to stay with me all day long… I just thought if you were already at the hospital, maybe stop by for a visit? That shouldn’t be too much to ask.”

With Ranita on his mind and feeling frazzled from everything that had happened recently with her situation, Brendon refused without hesitation, “I have things going on right now; gotta head back to work soon. Maybe next time.”

After hanging up the phone call with Shannon, Brendon went back inside only to find Dylan blocking Ranita’s way looking upset, “When are you going to stop this nonsense?”

“Now that there is nothing between Ranita and you anymore,” Dylan sneered sarcastically while continuing his taunt towards him, “you’re still bothering her like this? If it continues like this, I’ll report it as harassment.”

“This is personal business between my wife and myself; stay out of it.” With cold eyes filled with anger, Brendon demanded Dylan move aside, “Step aside!”

“What if I don’t let go?” Dylan continued blocking his path.

“Dylan! Don’t make me get rough!” The sound of Brendon’s fists clenching together echoed through the hallway as he threatened him while raising them up defensively against him.

Just then Steve appeared in time before things could escalate further.

Seeing their tense confrontation, he spoke sternly, “Enough from both of you! This is a hospital not a boxing ring! If you wanna fight, take it outside where there aren’t any patients around or else I’ll bring in some cheerleaders for you!”

“The patient needs rest so both of you leave now!” Steve ordered them out before turning back towards Ranita, “Are ya okay?”

“Good!” Ranita breathed a sigh of relief. “I must have looked foolish in front of you.”

Steve chuckled, “It’s not often we see Brendon act so impulsive and immature.”

“He knows,” Ranita pursed her lips, “He knows about the baby.”

Steve nodded thoughtfully, “Ah… that explains it.” After a pause, he comforted her, “Don’t dwell on it now. You need to rest and take care of yourself. Anything else can wait until you’re feeling better.”

“Okay!” Ranita smiled at him gratefully. Steve had been a great help to her during this time and she didn’t want to keep anything from him. She continued, “Brendon and I went to file for divorce.”Belongs © to NôvelDrama.Org.

The divorce papers were still in her bag.

Steve seemed to have guessed as much and hesitated before saying, “Hmm… if that’s what you want, then I’m happy for you. I’ve deleted your medical records from the hospital but kept all other test results which I’ll give to Yasmin instead. Try not to come back here again if possible.”

“You probably don’t want to run into Shannon either.”

“I understand,” Ranita replied with gratitude.

Outside the door Brendon was arguing fiercely with Dylan.

“Brendon! Get lost already! Go find your precious Shannon! I’ll take care of Ranita from now on!”
