A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 301 The Greatest Insult

“Sss! My stomach hurts!” Shannon held her belly and looked pitifully at Brendon. “Can you carry me to bed for a while?”

As she spoke, tears welled up in Shannon’s eyes.

Brendon carried her to the bed, and Shannon held onto his hand tightly, looking pained. “Brendon, please don’t blame Ranita. No one wanted this to happen.”

“… Don’t talk now. Let me call a doctor for you first.” Brendon’s face was grim as he called Carlee.

Carlee arrived quickly and said, “You two go out first. I’ll check on Shannon.”

“Brendon, I’m scared!” Shannon’s face was pale as she clung onto Brendon’s hand tightly.

With time running out, Brendon had no choice but to stay with her.

Ranita stood at the door watching it close with a bang. Occasionally she could hear Brendon asking how Shannon was doing inside.

“At this time when we should be careful not to fall down accidentally causing miscarriage…” The doctor’s voice wasn’t loud but Ranita could hear it clearly.

Miscarriage?

A chill ran through Ranita’s heart.

Shannon always put on airs but this time she used her unborn child as leverage? Ranita didn’t sympathize with Shannon; instead she felt sorry for the poor child in her belly.

After waiting for a while longer, Ranita turned around and left just as the door opened again with a crash and Brendon stepped out quickly calling after her.

“Ranita!” His expression wasn’t good; his deep-set eyes locked onto hers intently. “Do you have anything to say?”

“What do you want me to say?” Ranita pursed her lips tightly together, “I didn’t touch Shannon at all! As for why I came here today, it was because she called saying that we needed all three of us present so we could clear things up.”

“I saw you push away from her,” paused briefly before continuing, he said, “At least apologize!”

“Apologize? I’ve said it before, I didn’t touch her! Brendon, don’t you believe me?” Ranita squeezed her phone, her heart feeling like it was filled with thorns, and with a gentle touch, it revealed all the bloody wounds.

“I don’t not believe you…”

“Then why should I apologize to Shannon? Brendon… I’m standing here, and that child is the greatest insult to me!” Ranita held her words in her throat in one breath. She had a lot to say, but at this point, what was the use of saying all these things!

“If Miss Murphy is not feeling well, let’s talk another time! I’ll leave first!” Ranita walked away quickly. Brendon caught up with her and said, “Ranita!”

Ranita gently pushed his hand away.

“Go back, Shannon is waiting for you.”

This time it was she who pushed him away. Ranita felt like it wasn’t that difficult after all.

The pain in her heart became a habit.

“Ranita… go back and rest well. We’ll talk when I get home,” Brendon said softly.

“No need! Brendon… look at your schedule and let’s go to the civil affairs bureau to get our divorce certificate,” Ranita replied.

“Ranita!” Brendon grabbed her hand and pulled her into an empty examination room nearby. He held her tightly in his arms and said hoarsely, “I won’t divorce you.”

Ranita’s heart felt sour again.

If this had happened before, even if she had to fight against the whole world, she would have wanted to stay by his side. But now… she was tired. She had endured enough; she didn’t want to continue like this anymore.Content (C) Nôv/elDra/ma.Org.

Her eyes were filled with bitterness as she tried hard to hold back tears and calmly said, “Brendon, can you stop being stubborn? Besides, we agreed on getting a divorce in the first place so that I can find someone I love.”

“Can you just give me a chance?”
