A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 249 Can We Not Get Divorced?

Shannon spoke with exaggerated breaths and a thick accent, sounding both innocent and flirtatious.Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.

“Where are you? Why haven’t you been talking to me all day? I sent you messages but you didn’t reply. It’s making me so sad!”

Brendon listened, glancing at Ranita subconsciously. He noticed her expression was neutral, almost indifferent, and felt a pang of discomfort in his heart.

“Is there something wrong, Shannon?” Brendon asked with pursed lips.

“Brendon… can’t I call you just because? I’m so bored at home today. Can I come see you?” Shannon said softly and tentatively before adding pitifully, “It’s almost dinner time now. Let’s go eat together… if Ranita is free she can come too.”

Ranita couldn’t help feeling speechless as she listened.

Brendon felt awkward and wanted to hang up the phone but Ranita held onto his wrist tightly.

He turned back to grab her hand in return, squeezing it gently while looking into her eyes with mixed emotions.

“Brendon! Are you ignoring me just because of Ranita?” Shannon sniffled before continuing on another topic suddenly, “Someone sent me a picture earlier then deleted it immediately after but I still saw it… it was a picture of you two together! Maybe Ranita did that on purpose?”

“I know that sometimes my actions upset her but I really don’t mean to do that. Why does she always seem so hostile towards me?”

It hurt when someone kept holding back their true feelings like this…

Ranita couldn’t take it anymore, “Miss Murphy… excuse my interruption for a moment here. When did I ever send any pictures to you? We’re not even friends yet!”

Her voice sounded cold as ice as she proved Shannon wrong verbally without mercy or hesitation.

There was silence from Shannon for three seconds until she spoke again with an even more pitiful tone than before, “I’m sorry Ranita… I misspoke earlier out of anxiety. It was actually Eve who sent the photo to me since she is your good friend too.”

In any case though, this mess had already been thrown onto poor Ranita…

She laughed sarcastically before saying bluntly, “Miss Murphy, maybe Eve made an honest mistake sending that photo by accident too! Besides, why exactly do you think that I dislike your presence around here anyway?”

“You should have read a lot of books as a rich girl. Don’t you know the meaning of propriety, righteousness, integrity and shame? You pulled and pushed with my husband, even rolled into his bed, and you want me to like you? Be grateful to you?”

Ranita’s words made Shannon cry out in tears. She tried to defend herself, “Ranita, I’m sorry… I didn’t mean it… I never thought this would happen! And don’t you have no feelings for Brendon? Didn’t you get divorced?”

Ranita was so angry that her brain was congested. She raised her voice at Shannon regardless of Brendon’s presence, “Miss Murphy, I’m afraid that will disappoint you! I don’t plan on getting divorced!”

“Brendon, I’m not getting divorced!”

Brendon parked the car on the side of the road and looked at her with deep eyes while Shannon continued speaking pitifully, “Ranita, it’s okay if you’re angry but why do this? You clearly have no feelings for Brendon anymore. What’s the point in continuing this marriage?”

Brendon hung up his phone and turned it off.

“Ranita… what did you mean by saying we won’t get divorced just now?” He pulled Ranita closer and saw that she was red-eyed from anger with words stuck in her throat. Ranita looked at him with a soft voice, “Brendon…can we not get divorced?”
