Chapter 189 Shifting Blame
Marlon suggested that Ranita report this harassment to the police, but since she was in Qaesburg it would be difficult for them to handle it. Instead, Marlon offered to send a legal statement on her behalf and gather evidence so they could take legal action if necessary.
Ranita thanked him and promised to pay any fees needed.
Marlon was an excellent lawyer-efficient and with a strong sense of individuality. Chris’s recommendation really paid off; he was reliable!
“Miss Bowman, you can rest assured that the bill will be delivered to you promptly,” Marlon said with a smile. “Get some rest.”
After ending the call, Ranita turned to see Brendon, who handed her a glass of water. She had been on the phone all night, looking distressed about the online situation, but she still wouldn’t open up to him. Was his help really that worthless? Others couldn’t even beg for it, but she seemed determined not to let him help. Brendon felt really frustrated.
“Are you done being busy?” Ranita asked as her phone kept buzzing. She silenced it and apologized, “Sorry, did I disturb you?”
Brendon was about to respond when his phone suddenly received a video call. Ranita knew it had to be Shannon without thinking.
She wanted to step away, give her some space, but Brendon reached out and held her back. The video call connected.
Seeing two people in the frame, Shannon hesitated for a moment. Then, with a sweet and soft tone, she said, “Brendon, Ranita.”
Looking at the background of the room, they should be in the same room. Shannon felt a sudden surge of hatred and wished she could fly to Qaesburg immediately.
“Shannon, is there something you need?” Brendon’s voice was low and expressionless, making him seem cold as ice.
“Brendon, can’t I call you if there’s nothing wrong? You went on a business trip for several days and I miss you so much at home!”
She sounded soft and coquettish.
Ranita felt disgusted and angry watching her husband being flirted with right in front of her face. What woman could tolerate that?
“You two talk, I’m going to the study.” Ranita wanted to leave but Shannon cried out pitifully, “Ranita, are you upset because I called Brendon?”
Ranita stopped in her tracks.
“Yes! I am upset. Can’t you hang up now?”
Shannon didn’t expect her sudden change of tone. She bit her lip as tears welled up in her eyes. “Ranita… I’m sorry… I didn’t mean anything by it. It’s just that I got used to having Brendon around at home so when he wasn’t here it felt strange so I decided to make a video call.”
“And also, I want to apologize to you about what happened online. I’ve already posted an announcement on my fan group telling them not to get too excited or break any rules. They’ve been doing really well following all the guidelines so hopefully it hasn’t caused any trouble for you!”
Ranita was shocked by how shameless Shannon was acting.Property of Nô)(velDr(a)ma.Org.
Most of those who called or texted insulting messages were Shannon’s fans yet she had audacity say they followed rules well!
“Miss Murphy,” Ranita sneered sarcastically, “Do you even know how to write ‘rules’ properly?”
This made Shannon burst into tears again as she tried hard not cry while looking extremely pitifully helpless. “What do you mean… what are you trying to say…”
“What do I mean? Most people who called were shouting your name…” Ranita hadn’t finished speaking before Shannon started defending herself again.
She held back sobs while looking incredibly pathetic, “Ranita, it’s not like that…. you misunderstood me! You know there are many haters online targeting me. Those people are beyond my control.”
It almost made Ranita feel sick laughing out loud at this point.
Shannon played this trick very skillfully – shifting blame onto others without taking responsibility herself! Those fans who took undeserved criticism really had it rough!
