Chapter 635 Lose Oneself
With a sweep of his arms, Kieran pulled the covers over them.
Inez, still feeling uneasy, asked, “Mr. Kieran, Gwendolyn and Mr. Jenson are in the next room. Won’t they hear us if we’re too loud?”
“No. The walls of this hotel room are thick and well soundproofed.”
“But-
“No buts.” Kieran decisively sealed her lips with his, kissing her passionately.
“Don’t worry. Kiddo and Cedrick must be tired and will probably wake up late. They won’t say anything.”
Subsequently, Inez stopped asking questions, willingly succumbing to Kieran’s tenderness.
Meanwhile, in the room next door, the drapes were tightly drawn, blocking any light from filtering into the room and obscuring the intimate scene inside from view.
Gwendolyn’s waist was utterly sore from making love with Cedrick for most of the night. Only at that point did he relent out of compassion.
By morning, they had barely managed to sleep a few hours. Feeling extremely tired, they even planned to skip breakfast.
In the pitch-black, confined space, Gwendolyn nestled in the nook of Cedrick’s arm.
Their bodies were pressed again each other as their breaths intermingled while they slept soundly.
After resting for another hour, Gwendolyn was awakened by her phone on the bedside table, which rang as she received a video call invitation on WhatsApp.
Supporting her aching waist, she slowly sat up and reached for the device on the bedside table.
The video call was from Charles.
Before going on that trip, she had made a special arrangement with Charles. They would video call every morning so she could see her children. Only by knowing they were safe and in good health could she enjoy her vacation at Turlen with peace of mind.
Gwendolyn was still groggy but eager to see Benedict and Zendaya because of the incoming video call.
As she switched on the light and was about to answer the call, her phone was snatched away by Cedrick, who had just woken up beside her.
He sighed in resignation and signaled at Gwendolyn with his eyes, reminding her that she was only clad in a silk nightgown. Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
“Are you sure you want to video call Charles looking like this? Aren’t you afraid he’ll get aroused?”
His voice was laced with a hint of jealousy. He decisively rejected the call yet was sensible enough to text Charles: Give me five minutes. I’ll call you back.
After sending the message, he forcefully pulled Gwendolyn into his arms and carried her up from the bed.
Gwendolyn, feeling the sudden weightlessness, instinctively clung to his neck, seemingly seeking security. “What are you doing?”
“Freshen up,” he responded tersely and solemnly while striding toward the washroom with her in his embrace.
Knowing Gwendolyn’s waist was sore and her legs weak, he thoughtfully helped her wash up and change into a decent dress.
She took in his serious demeanor and sighed in contentment. “Hubby, if you continue to spoil me in this manner, I’m afraid I’ll be so pampered that I won’t even know how to eat by myself without you by my side.”
Cedrick’s eyes were gentle and full of indulgence. “Wouldn’t it be nice if that’s the case? You don’t have to worry about anything. Just let me handle all the difficulties while you focus on enjoying life.”
She shook her head firmly. “In my opinion, marriage doesn’t mean losing one’s self-worth. A happy, family requires contributions from all members, so I can’t be a good-for-nothing.”
In fact, she had bigger ambitions beyond caring for her family. She wanted to go from being the richest person in Chanaea to the wealthiest in the world.
Naturally, Cedrick knew her well. He was merely teasing her. “In that case, in the future, you’ll take care of the children while I am responsible for doting on you.”
Gwendolyn frowned. “Are you saying that you’ll neglect your children? If you do that, they may not acknowledge you as their father when they grow up.”
He helped her zip up her dress, responding casually, “I was just kidding. All right. You can return call now and see the children you’ve been missing dearly.”
Another long hour ensued.
After hanging up the phone, Gwendolyn finally left the room at half past ten with Cedrick, ready to for breakfast.
Kieran and Inez happened to open their room door at the same time, and the four bumped into cach other in the hallway.
Gwendolyn was delighted to see that Kieran and Inez’s relationship had significantly improved compared to last night. “It seems like everyone got up at the right time. Shall we go for breakfast together?”
The quartet left the corridor in unison.
Gwendolyn perceptively noticed a slight blush on Inez’s face that hadn’t completely faded. She gave Kieran a thumbs-up inwardly. I thought Kieran was hopeless. It seems like he does have some skills, after all, being able to pacify his future wife’s emotions in only one night. What a fast learner.
After having breakfast, they began the second day of their vacation in Turlen.
Meanwhile, inside the Federal Bureau of Investigation at Salinsburgh, Chanaca, someone knocked on the deputy director’s office door.
Nico, who was busy working, replied without even looking up, “Come in.”
It was the police officer tasked to guard the entrance. “Mr. Nico, a young lady outside is looking for you,
claiming to be your soon-to-be fiancée.”
Nico, who was in the middle of writing, paused. “What is she doing here at the Federal Bureau of Investigation instead of attending her classes?”
The officer shook his head. Then, he glanced at his watch and boldly ventured a guess. “Today is a weekend, so there shouldn’t be any class at the university, right? She’s probably missing you.”
“It’s the weekend?” Nico looked at the calendar on his desk.
He had marked that day’s date a few days ago, promising to spend the day with Summer, but he had been swamped with work and had forgotten all about it.
With Cedrick away on vacation, Nico had to juggle the affairs of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Jenson Group, which was incredibly hectic to manage.
Having recently been promoted to deputy director, he wasn’t yet used to delegating important matters to his subordinates as he felt more at ease handling things personally. There’s still a lot to do today. I’m afraid I won’t have any free time today, but Summer…
“Mr. Nico, should I bring your fiancée in?”
Nico, lost in thought while staring at the calendar, was brought back to reality by the officer’s question.
Nico pondered briefly and capped his pen. “That’s not necessary. I’ll go out and talk to her.”
“Okay.”
Outside the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Summer paced nervously, checking her makeup, and after confirming that it was perfect, she continued to wait for Nico to come out.
Ten minutes later, he exited the building.
Taking in Nico’s handsome appearance while dressed in a military uniform, she beamed sweetly at him. “Nico.”
Nico grabbed her arm and led her to a quiet corner before casually ruffling her hair.
“Summer, I have some urgent military affairs to handle today, so I’m afraid I can’t keep you company. Can you invite some of your close friends and hang out with them instead?”
The smile on Summer’s face gradually faded, quickly replaced by a solemn and angry look. “You said the same thing last time. You promised me that you would spare some time to spend the day with me, but you’re going to stand me up again now.”
Nico apologized, “I’m sorry. I was recently promoted to the deputy director position, and I don’t want to let Cedrick down. I must do better than Craig did as soon as possible.”
Tears welled up in Summer’s eyes as she bit her lower lip. “You always have endless work to attend to. To Mr. Jenson, Gwendolyn takes precedence, but in your opinion, everything is more important than me.”
Nico couldn’t bear to see a girl cry, especially since he was in the wrong in that matter. “Princess, it’s my fault. Don’t be sad, and don’t overthink.”
Aggrieved, she pushed away his hand, which was clumsily wiping her tears. “Nico, do you still remember we’re getting engaged soon? Even Mr. Jenson asked
engagement gift the other day, but you’ve never asked about these things. It’s like you don’t care about our engagement at all. Do I not hold a significant place in your heart? Are you just reluctantly agreeing to get
engaged with me because Mr. Jenson and Gwendolyn were inclined to matchmake us?”
