Chapter 577 Paternity Test
Chapter 577 Paternity Test
Approaching Kieran, Gwendolyn asked, “Kieran, how’s the result?”
Wearing a grim expression, Kieran did not reply. He passed the handwritten report to Gwendolyn.
Bright red words in the lower right corner attracted Gwendolyn’s attention: Half-sibling relationship.
Although Gwendolyn could not comprehend the other medical terminologies in the report, she knew what the red words implied well.
To confirm, she asked, “Kieran, does this mean my DNA matches with Annie’s?”
Kieran nodded. “According to the results of my triple checks, it’s a half-sibling relationship. You both share the same father but have different mothers.”
This meant that Annie Steinfeld was actually Evelyn Harris.
No matter how much Evelyn argued, the evidence was irrefutable.
Gwendolyn was not at all surprised. In fact, she was quite satisfied with the result. “Thanks, Kieran.”
Kieran responded, “You’re welcome. However, now that we know that Annie is our illegitimate sister, what do you plan to do?”
Gwendolyn’s expression hardened. She had an innate disdain for the words “illegitimate sister.”
“Let’s keep this private, and we’ll handle it our family’s way. This time, I won’t give her any chance to turn the situation around,” Gwendolyn said.
Kieran remained silent, ready to support any decision that his sister would make.
Inez also despised the existence of illegitimate children as much as Gwendolyn and fully supported the latter’s decision to teach Evelyn a lesson.
It was already three in the afternoon. The corner of Gwendolyn’s lips curled into a slight smile. With a hint of irony in her voice, she mocked, “Annie’s days of pretense are numbered. Kieran, Inez, would you care to accompany me to the old villa to witness the upcoming spectacle?”
Kieran and Inez glanced at each other in tacit understanding. They were more than eager to watch Gwendolyn sort out the cunning woman.
As the trio left Kieran’s villa, Gwendolyn’s phone rang.
Surprisingly, it was Logan.
This was the first time he had ever called her. She halted, answering the phone with a mixture of curiosity and unease.
“Logan, what’s wrong? Has something happened to Benny and Zendy?” Gwendolyn asked.
Logan’s voice was filled with anxiety. “They’re all right. It’s Old Mr. Jenson. He suddenly fainted during his afternoon tea. He’s been unconscious since. The Jenson family’s medical corps are all here. If anything happens to Old Mr. Jenson and Mr. Jenson is not in Salinsburgh, Jenson Group will descend into chaos. Please return at once.”
Gwendolyn’s expression turned solemn as she said, “I’ll be right there.”
Disconnecting the call, she calmly turned to Inez and said, “Inez, would you mind visiting Sienna? Make sure she keeps a close eye on Annie in the old villa’s basement. I need to deal with the Jenson family’s matters, but I’ll return as soon as I can to handle Annie.”
“Okay, don’t worry,” Inez replied.
With a reassuring nod from Inez, Gwendolyn then turned to Kieran. “Kieran, I could use your help too. Although the Jenson family medical corps consists of the medical world’s elite, you’re the one I trust the most.”
Kieran didn’t hesitate in the slightest and nodded.
The trio then parted ways, with Inez heading to Asher’s villa, while Gwendolyn and Kieran drove back to the Jenson residence.
Valentino’s bedroom was filled to the brim with people. Both elders and younger members of the family were all present, causing quite the chaos.
Logan made a path through the crowd, leading Gwendolyn and Kieran to the bedside.
Valentino had been in high spirits recently because of Benedict and Zendaya. However, his sudden fainting spell had made him look significantly aged.
Gwendolyn turned to the medical corps and asked, “He seemed perfectly fine last night. How could he have fallen ill so suddenly?”
A doctor stepped forward and said, “Old Mr. Jenson has always had high blood pressure and diabetes. We suspect he might have eaten something that negatively interacted with his medication.”
Gwendolyn furrowed her brows, sensing that something was off.
However, with so many people in the room, she didn’t voice her suspicions. Instead, she made way for Kieran to sit by Valentino’s side to give him another checkup.
While Kieran was examining him, the chatter outside the door was incessant. Valentino’s sudden illness had many in the family worried.
Annoyed, Gwendolyn reprimanded, “Why are you all making so much noise? He needs rest. It’s so stifling in here with so many people in the room. Please leave, everyone. We will keep everyone posted if there’s any news.”
Following her order, Logan and the servants ushered the crowd out to the downstairs living room.
Only Xander remained, kneeling beside Valentino’s bed and weeping.
Gwendolyn found the noise of his whimpering nauseating and shot a glare at the man. “Why are you crying? It’s just a minor illness. Are you trying to curse him?”
Grief was written all over the man’s face. “How could I curse Grandpa? Out of everyone in the Jenson family, he’s the one who loves me the most. I can’t help but feel upset at seeing him unconscious and ill.”
Gwendolyn remained expressionless.
“Tears don’t prove distress. If you truly feel guilty, why don’t you take ten strikes of the whip at the ancestral hall? I think Grandpa will appreciate your sincerity more,” she said curtly.
Xander’s crying came to an abrupt halt, and he stared at her resentfully. “Gwendolyn, you really have a venomous heart. Ten strikes of the whip could take half my life. Are you trying to kill me?”
Gwendolyn let out a cold snort. “I’m just making a suggestion. You crying dramatically here won’t help with Grandpa’s treatment. On the other hand, you might even delay the medical corps’ and my brother’s efforts. Are you sincerely upset for Grandpa, or are you just putting on a show?”
Xander stood up abruptly, his voice filled with righteous indignation as he argued, “Of course, I truly care for Grandpa! I am his real grandson, while you’re just a daughter-in-law who married into the family. You share no blood ties with Grandpa. You could never understand my sorrow.”
Gwendolyn shot him a cold look and scoffed softly.
For every word she said, Xander would retort with ten.
Engaging in a verbal duel with such a person was futile. Thus, she turned to Logan and said, “Please show Mr. Xander the door. He’s only causing trouble here.”
Xander was not happy to hear that.
“Who says I’m only causing trouble? Gwendolyn, what gives you the right, as an outsider, to stay by my grandfather’s side, while I, his actual grandson, am driven away? With Cedrick absent, do you think you’re the one calling the shots in the Jenson family?” he retorted.
He didn’t raise his voice, nor did he lose his manners as a Jenson. However, the gaze under his gold- rimmed glasses was dripping with sarcasm.
Logan cleared his throat gently and reminded him, “Mr. Xander, mind your words. Mrs. Jenson is not an outsider. She is the daughter-in-law of the Jenson family. Old Mr. Jenson regards her as his own granddaughter. Mr. Jenson is in power, and while he is not at home, his lawful wife naturally has a say in these matters.”
Xander found himself at a loss for words.
Logan continued, “Furthermore, Mr. Jenson has always loved Mrs. Jenson dearly. If he learns that you have deliberately provoked and treated her as an outsider, he won’t let you off the hook easily.”
Xander could not bring himself to utter a single word upon hearing that.
He swallowed hard, his gaze landing on Gwendolyn. His presence significantly dimmed, as he clearly felt subdued.NôvelDrama.Org (C) content.
Ever since Cedrick had taken over Jenson Group, Xander had already been punished several times with the whip.
That d’mn thing hurts like hell. Xander was utterly terrified of the punishment.
With her hands tucked arrogantly on her hips and a teasing look in her eyes, Gwendolyn asked, “Mr. Xander, are you leaving? Or should I have the housekeepers escort you out?”
