Chapter 857
Chapter 857 I'll Meet You at the Old House Tonight
Jodie smiled and took the two wine glasses away to be washed before quietly leaving the office.
Emelie answered the phone. Her tone was relaxed as she said, "Mr. Inning."
Lyle, who was usually very laid-back, sounded unusually serious as he replied, "Emelie, I've uncovered some things. Should we meet?"
Emelie was silent for a few seconds before laughing. "Let's meet."
"Are you sure?"
"What's there to be unsure about? Since I've asked you to investigate, then I want to know."
Lyle said, "Alright. I'll meet you at the old house tonight."
Emelie agreed and said, "Okay."
After work, Emelie went to the market and bought a few sweet potatoes and some seasonings on a whim.
When she got back to the old house, she searched for recipes online and followed the instructions to make the filling. After tasting it, she thought it turned out quite well.
Thus, when Lyle arrived at the old house in the middle of the night, he saw Emelie at the dining table, sleeves rolled up, wearing an apron, preparing sweet potatoes.
The pot in the kitchen was already boiling, and the aroma of sweet potatoes filled the air. Lyle was momentarily taken aback. "Why are you doing this yourself?"
"I wasn't working today, and I felt like cooking." Emelie glanced at him. "You've been on the road all day and probably haven't had time to eat. I've already boiled some. Help yourself. Add some salt and MSG."
Lyle went to the kitchen.
He grabbed a large bowl and filled it to the brim, then sat down and quickly ate one, blowing on it to cool it down. He gave her a thumbs up right after.
"You should've been a chef instead of a secretary. You could be a Michelin-starred chef by now."
Emelie scoffed. "I'm not suited to be just a secretary or a chef. I'm suited for anything."
She continued peeling sweet potatoes. One by one, the sweet potatoes, rosy and round, were neatly arranged in the tray.
"When I worked as Mr. Swanson's assistant, I excelled at everything whether it was fieldwork or paperwork. When I resigned, my colleagues begged me to stay. Having me around made their jobs much easier."
"Now that I'm running one of Filo Group's brands, there hasn't been a single mistake. If you don't believe me, ask AMS's BB. Ever since I won him over, he's been my number one supporter. Anyone who opposes me has to go through him first."
She boasted, "Even as a strategist, I'm undefeated. Charles, Bryan, Beathan, I've taken them all down."
Lyle chuckled. "Aren't these the kinds of compliments others should be giving you? Why are you bragging about yourself?"
Emelie looked up. "Strong people are often this confident."
All her boasting was leading up to her next statement.
"So, just tell me what you found. Don't worry that I can't handle it. I'm not as fragile as you think. Besides, I've already considered every possible outcome. Whatever you say will just confirm my suspicions, and you won't scare me."
Lyle continued eating his sweet potatoes, and Emelie didn't rush him. She calmly peeled more of it.
The last time she made noodles, Lyle couldn't stop talking about how good they were, always asking her to cook again. This time, she prepared extra sweet potatoes and stored them in the freezer, so he could cook them whenever he came back late.
After finishing his bowl in about ten minutes, Lyle leaned back in his chair.Belonging to NôvelDrama.Org.
Once he'd rested enough and gathered his thoughts, he slowly began to recount everything he had discovered during his investigation.
