Planned meeting at the park
At the breakfast table, they all sat enjoying their meal when Melissa joined them.
Looking around she sat at the table but no one paid any attention to her. After Mr. Johnson’s visit, she hoped to see Mark when she got from her room but he didn’t show up making her feel a little disappointed he had given up on her.
“Are you waiting for someone?” Her grandfather asked when he noticed how her eyes kept darting to the entrance.
“Hmm! No, who could I be waiting for? You are all here apart from uncle of course.” She said coughing a little to mask her feelings then concentrated on her meal and missed the look they exchanged between them.
“Mummy, do you have to go to work today?” Tommy asked after the meal as she got up to leave.
“Yes honey I have to, why are you asking?” She sat back to talk to him.
“I want to go to the park. Can you take me?”
“I can’t right now baby, why don’t you let grandmother take you and next time mummy will accompany you.” She tried to persuade him but he pouted his mouth as tears welled in his eyes.
“I want you to take me, mummy. Do you love me anymore?” He asked, wiping his tears.
“I love you so much, baby.” Sighing she glanced at her aunt remembering their conversation. “Okay, I’ll take you. Let me get changed first then we can go.”
“No.” They all shouted in unison, startling Melissa.
“You don’t have to. So you can get to the office from the park.” Her aunt explained.
“Okay, are you sure you’re not up to something you guys?” She glanced at each one of them but they shook their heads acting dumb.
Though she felt their behavior was odd, she didn’t hint at what they were planning. “Aunt, what’s going on?” Melissa asked as the car drove off but her aunt said nothing.
When got to the park she took off her heels as Betty handed her a pair of sneakers.
“Ha ha aunt, I’ll look ridiculous wearing blue sneakers with my trouser suit.”
“It’s better than running around in bare feet.”
“Mummy run, see if you can catch me,” Tommy called running around. With no other choice, Melissa put on the sneakers and went after him. “You can’t catch me.” Tommy giggled, making her laugh as well.
From how her family was acting Melissa thought they had something or someone at the park waiting but looking around she didn’t see the one person she was longing for.
“I’m exhausted. You’re too fast, baby I can’t keep up.” Melissa hunched forward her hands on her knees trying to catch her breath.
“Sit here mum, I’ll get you a bottle of water from grandma.” Tommy beamed. Then wiped her forehead after guiding her to sit on the grass.
“Don’t take too long.” She smiled, impressed by how mature he was acting.
He brought her to the park to cheer her up and there she was looking for someone who had given up on her. With her eyes closed, she rolled her shoulders to ease the tension as she waited for Tommy to get back.
The park was not crowded, she could see their car and no one could harm him. Feeling relaxed with her eyes closed, Melissa heard a dog groan making her open her eyes in flight. She had not seen any dog at the park yet when she opened her eyes, a dog stood before her with a red rose between its teeth. This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org: ©.
The dog reminded her of the times she was on campus. The dog friend brought her a rose every time she went to the park.
“Oh! Well, thank you.” Smiling Melissa took the rose and caressed the dog when it sat snuggling beside her.
“I sent you to deliver the flower, not to take the girl.” The dog moaned when he heard his master. “Come on boy go on now.”
Whining in protest, Spark ran towards Tommy who threw a ball for him to catch.
“You, what are you doing here?” With a straight face, Melissa looked at Mark as he sat beside her.
He looked much stronger though he still supported himself on a walking stick. “Did you plan this with Tommy?” She asked, staring at the red rose.
“Don’t be mad at them. I didn’t know if you would want to see me, so we decided to trick you and Spark offered to help.” He smiled at her silently praying she wouldn’t push him away. “Melissa, I’m sorry for hurting you. I only went along with Sasha’s plans so I could protect you and bring our family together. She tricked me into signing the divorce papers but Jason found out and stopped the process. You are still my wife Melissa. The only one I want in my life. Please forgive me, I love you so much.” He explained hoping she won’t shut him out and forgives him.
“You don’t have to apologize, Mark. Mr. Johnson explained to me and now I realize my mistake. I should have trusted you more. Honestly, I’m the one who should apologize to everyone for being so rude. Please forgive me.” She smiled, tears lingering in her eyes.
Gazing into her eyes he caressed her cheeks as he wiped the single teardrop then lightly kissed her lips. “I’ve missed you so much.” Leaning his forehead to hers he gazed into her eyes.
“I’ve missed you too.” Looking deep into his eyes she confessed.
Holding her close he brushed her hair as people came towards them applauding. Looking up, she saw her family and Mark’s family cheering.
“You all planned this?” Melissa asked, looking at them all as Mark helped her up.
“We want you two to be happy dear. Welcome to the family.” Mark’s mother hugged her cheerfully. “You better take good care of my daughter.” She warned Mark as she joined their hands together.
….
Seated in her car a few feet away from them, Sasha watched as they hugged and laughed. As anger surged through her, she clenched her fist so hard that her nails dug into her palm.
“Damn you, Melissa. I’m going to kill you myself for taking Mark from me. I should be his wife by now, not you.” She swore getting her key to start the engine.
“What do you think you’re doing?” Diana, who was seated beside her, took the key from her hand. “Melissa is mine. If you harm her, I’ll give you a slow and painful death.” She warned, pointing at Sasha’s face.
“How hard is it for you to get rid of her? You have failed so many times I highly doubt you can kill a fry.” Sasha mocked Diana.
“Don’t try me, I can clash you if I want.” Diana whispered into Sasha’s ear as she twisted her hand behind her back harder, making her winch in pain. “You failed to accomplish what we had planned and now you don’t stand a chance with him. Blame yourself for your incompetence.” Diana sneered.
“I want Melissa dead. With her out of the picture Mark will surely love me, I know it.”
“I have a plan to get her, just make sure you don’t fail me this time.” She warned, letting her go.
“What plan? Tell me, I’ll do anything to get rid of that pest.” She urged Diana touching her sore arm.
“I’ll tell you when the time is right. For now, do what your grandfather said and be nice to the Johnsons.” Diana smiled at her stepping out of the car.
After what had happened, her grandfather asked her to go back to the States. He was taking her out of the projects she worked on with the Johnsons to restore their trust.
