Chapter 226
Chapter 226
Meredith thought Nolan had left and was surprised to see him return, but she still walked over. "What is
it?"
Nolan handed her the report that had returned to its original state. "I don't know what it is. The nurse
gave it to me and asked me to give it to you."
Meredith frowned and took a look at it before realizing that it was her report of the paternity test.
Suddenly, she looked at Nolan warily.
"doctor Leslie, you didn't... see the thing inside, did you?"
For the time being, she did not want any outsiders to know the identity of the child in case it would incur
risks.
"Of course I didn't. I have work ethics."
Nolan noticed her nervousness. When Meredith heard him say that, she was too embarrassed to doubt
anything. "I didn't mean that. It's just... It's about my privacy. I am not doubting you."
"I know. Don't worry. I won't do such a base thing. Since this has been delivered, I'll leave now."
With that said, Nolan strode away. Now, he had more important things to do, and there was no need to
continue to talk with Meredith now.
Seeing him leaving, Meredith bit her lip and carefully put away the report. After staying with her mother
for a while, she went downstairs.
"Miss Mason, do you want to go straight home?" The driver opened the door for Meredith and asked.
"No, go to yesterday's place!"Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
Meredith held the paternity test in her hand and could not tell whether she was excited or upset. This
report had come at the right time. Derek was here and she could give it to him herself...
What would he think if he saw what was inside?
Would he be happy or surprised?
Meredith was not sure either, but she wanted to have a try. Perhaps, knowing that the child was his, the
invisible gap between the two could disappear.
The long journey passed quickly when Meredith was lost in thinking.
At the hotel where she stayed yesterday, Meredith called Derek directly.
Derek had just walked out of the venue when he heard his phone ring. He took it out and saw
Meredith's name. He who was upset became even gloomier.
Seeing that no one answered the call, Meredith was a little disappointed. However, she thought that
maybe he was still working overtime and couldn't answer the phone, so she didn't call him. She sent
him a message. "Derek, I have something very important to tell you. Please call me as soon as you
finish your meeting. I was waiting for you at your hotel yesterday."
Derek saw the news and frowned. He thought that Meredith would not come to him today after he had
treated her coldly yesterday. Besides, she was still pregnant and running back and forth was very tired.
Unexpectedly, she was still as stubborn as before.
However, at the thought of the message this morning, Derek resisted the thought of replying and
quickly deleted the message.
Coincidentally, a man who wanted to get close to Derek came over and said, "Mr. Xavier, I have a wine
party here. Would you like to join us?"
The man smiled flatteringly, and anyone could see his intention to fawn over Derek. Derek would
certainly ignore such a devious person.
But Derek frowned at the thought of Meredith waiting for him in the hotel and then nodded coldly.
"Okay."
That man was just taking a chance. After all, Derek was the business magnet in this meeting.
Catherine hit on him yesterday but was humiliated and everyone knew it. He didn't expect that he
would be so lucky that Derek would agree to go to his party.
Thinking about it, the man was even more attentive. He followed Derek obediently like a dog, asking
different questions. Then, he drove Derek to his wine party.
"Remember, get more young and beautiful girls. Don't worry about the money. As long as they serve
this one well, I will pay for whatever it costs."
As he drove, the man called his men and instructed them. It seemed that Derek was just a common
person with sexual desires. As long as he seized the opportunity, he might be able to have connections
with Xavier Group.
...
Meredith had been waiting in the hotel lobby for a long time. Because when she left in the morning, she
had already returned the room card to the hotel staff, now she could only sit in the lobby and watch
eagerly for Derek's car.
However, after waiting for a long time, she did not see him, and her cell phone did not ring.
Was he really that busy?
Meredith's heart gradually sank in the long wait. She had looked forward to seeing him, but now she
was frightened. She was not sure how Derek react when he saw what was in her hand.
"You are overthinking." Meredith patted her face. "He didn't hesitate to save you and got hurt. How
could change so quickly? He won't change!"
She comforted herself and drank the warm milk the waiter served and waited for Derek to come back.
When Derek arrived at the party, he found a quiet corner to drink.
He usually hated such an occasion, but now, when he thought of what had been out of control, he felt
the urge to get drunk.
Soon, the row of foreign wine in front of him was empty.
Seeing that Derek seemed to be a little drunk, the few young and beautiful girls who had been specially
recruited had the courage to approach him. They had long wanted to get close to this man who was
dignified and powerful, but he looked difficult to approach. Only after he was drunk, he looked amiable
and less scary.
"Mr. Xavier, how about I drink with you..."
"Yeah, it's boring for you to drink alone. We will drink with you..."
A group of women came over in a coquettish voice, and the strong smell of perfume made Derek
couldn't help but feel disgusted. He looked up and saw seemingly beautiful, heavily powdered faces.
Even though he was a little drunk, he still disdained them.
"Get lost!"
Derek suddenly felt a little queasy and pushed the courteous women away. He stood up and staggered
out.
Walking to the bathroom, Derek was about to wash his hands when he heard a girl's cry for help not far
away.
"No, let me go. I'm just a waiter. Let me go!"
The voice was a little familiar, and Derek had heard Meredith saying those words. These reminded him
of that time when Meredith was harassed.
Thinking about it, he stopped and walked to where the sound came from. It was actually a
compartment in the men's room.
"Get out." Derek kicked the door and the people inside were startled.
