Chapter 42
Logan narrowed his eyebrows at Peter and crossed his arms. “Oh?” He asked, not at all amused by the spectacle that was unfolding before him.
I grabbed Maria’s arm. Was he about to start dropping confessions all by himself? This was going to be way easier than I thought.
Peter closed his eyes and slowly bobbed his head up and down. “Yessssss sir,” he said, pouring himself another glass of champagne.
1 would love to hear more about this little promotion,” Logan said.
“Pfft. Oh, it’sssss not a little promotion,” Peter was now leaning dangerously far left in his seat. He looked like he might topple over any second. “It’s for your job, Mr. CEO pants,” he pointed at Logan. He was sitting close enough to Logan that his finger almost touched the CEO’s face, so he stretched a little more forward and touched the tip of his nose. “Boop.” he said softly.
Logan swatted his finger away. He looked even more confused…and angry…now. “Do tell. How are you going to get my job, exactly?”
Everyone else in the room had stiffened by this point. Nobody dared move or even breathe hardly. You could cut the tension with a knife.
“Well,” Peter took a swig from his glass. “I asked somebody,” he pointed to me and loudly whispered, Hazel.” He nodded before continuing dramatically, “To dig up some dirt on you so I could expose you and then take over your job when they gave you the boot. Hey, you guys should try these mimosas, Marsha is so good at making them.”
Peter started to take another drink, but Logan grabbed Peter’s wrist. He wretched the glass from his hand. “Heyyy.” Peter protested, frowning.
“I think you and I have both had enough,” Logan said through gritted teeth.
Peter threw himself against the back of his seat and crossed his arms, pouting. “You sound just like Elena.”

“Excuse me?” Logan said.
“Elena? You know,” Peter cupped his hands under his own chest, indicating giant breasts. “The one with the…” He dissolved into a small fit of laughter. “Damn she’s hot, but she’s a nag. It’s always, ‘Why won’t you leave your wife for me Peter?’ And ‘Get off of that table, you drunk fool! I never hear the end of it if I don’t meet her in the supply closet every day for a quickie.” He made a rude gesture with his hands to show his coworkers exactly what the two of them do in that closet, then he started laughing again. He elbowed–the supervisor sitting right next to him. This material belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
There were audible gasps from the other supervisors. My eyes grew wide and I covered my mouth to silence my own laughter. This was going so much better than I thought it would.
“Okay,” Logan finally stood. “Hazel, please call security and ask them to escort Peter here back to his office. I want him to sober up before I let him go. Everyone else is dismissed. Maria, do you mind cleaning up?”
Chapter 1042–
Maria shook her head no and started clearing the brunch. The remaining supervisors jumped out of their seats. They hurriedly collected their plates and glasses and rushed out of the conference room.

“I’ll help you as soon as I make this call,” I told Maria.
“No, you won’t,” Logan said, his voice stern. “Because I need you in my office the second you’re off that phone.”
He stormed out of the conference room. I met Maria’s eyes. She looked just as frightened as I felt. I stepped around a now passed out Peter and left the conference room. I was dragging my feet all the way to my desk. Why was Logan seemingly mad at me? Was I going to be blamed for Peter’s drunken antics? Or worse…did he think that I actually helped Peter?
From the sound of his voice, it seemed like the latter was exactly what he thought.
After I made the call to security I found myself in front of Logan’s desk. I clasped my hands behind my back and looked at the floor.
“Hazel,” Logan paused briefly. “You should know that I’ve been watching you over the past week. I saw you talking to Peter quite a lot. You’ve also been acting very strangely. If you did betray me in the way Peter said, you will also be fired.”
I looked up at Logan, distraught. How could he even possibly think I would do that to him? “Sir, I…”
But before I could defend myself, Dylan came bursting through the door.
“Logan, I…” he started, then noticed the scene he had just walked into. Me, eyes watery, hunched over, and Logan, standing with both hands on his desk, he eyebrows with the same furrowed look they’d had ever since the brunch started. “Oh. I’m sorry. Am I interrupting something?”
“What do you want, Dylan?” Logan said, ignoring the question completely.
Dylan looked at me. I looked back at the floor. I hated that he kept seeing me in such a vulnerable state lately.
“Um…” Dylan looked back at Logan. “Your wife called me. She wants to set up a dinner meeting with you. Are you free for that tonight?”
Logan sighed. “Yes, I can make that work. Hazel, go and set up a dinner reservation for three. We’ll discuss this more at another time.”
Just what I wanted, to put off this torture. “Yes, sir,” I said and quickly walked to the door, not even daring to look at Dylan. He must think I’m such a pathetic mess.
When I threw open the door, I found Elena on the other side of it.
Great, I thought. The icing on the cake.
“What?” I said as soon as the door was closed behind me.
“You think you’re so slick, don’t you?”
“What are you talking about?” I said without looking at her. I typed “fine dining near me” in the search
ne of my computer, looking for a restaurant for Logan’s dinner meeting.
Ea slammed both hands down on the desk and leaned in as close as she could to me, her boobs. grazing my hands. I pulled them out from under her.
7 know why you threw that little brunch of yours. Are you proud of yourself? Now everyone in the office. knows about me and Peter and our little…afternoon meetings,” she spat at me.
“Oh Elena, everyone already knew about them. They were just too disgusted to mention it before,” I smiled at her.
She glared at me. Then she slowly walked around the desk and leaned down, her lips close to my ear. “Listen here, you bitch. I know you organized that little brunch as a way to expose Peter. And now, my job is on the line because of it.” She stood and glared at me again.
eyes. Her job being on the line was one hundred percent on her, but mentioning that would be a colossal waste of time.
“Anything else? I have work to do,” I said coolly.
“Yeah, just one more thing,” she leaned down to whisper the next part in my ear.
“You’re going to pay for this.”
