The Ceo’s Convict Wife by Jennifer Mike

Chapter 231

Chapter 231

Jonathan’s footsteps suddenly came to a halt. His dark gaze was fixed on her.

Rosalie looked confused. “What’s the matter?”

“What if I will?” came his sudden words.

She froze momentarily, and the smile on her face slowly abated. She pursed her lips stiffly and looked at him solemnly, “Jon, I don’t like being fooled. I always think that to get along with one another for a long time, we have to be sincere. Not lying is

basic.”

The man remained silent. All he did was stare at her.

“Will you lie to me?” she asked. At that moment, she felt an abject uneasiness within. She was afraid that Jonathan would utter the word “Yes” to her. She worried that the two of them might have different values.

If they could even not see eye to eye at that point, she wondered how they could go on as a couple.

Jonathan folded his hands slightly and parted his thin tips. Then came a steady utterance. “No.” This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.

Hearing that, Rosalie felt relieved as if a boulder had been lifted off her chest.

Fortunately, Jonathan would tell her no lie.

“Why? Are you scared that my answer didn’t turn out to be the one you wanted?” It seemed that he could read her expression.

“A little.” Ashamed, Rosalie touched her nose and added, “Anyway, I won’t be lying to you about anything in the future. You, too, don’t bluff me.”

“Okay,” Jonathan responded to the lady in a low voice. “But what would you do if I answered ‘Yes’ just now?”

He could not help but want to know the answer, even if it might actually terrify him moré.

Rosalie thought for a while, bit her lip lightly, and hesitated. “Maybe… I’ll break up with you.”

After all, it was difficult to go on if they did not share the same values. Even if they forced themselves to accept each other and stay together, there were bound to be problems in the future. If so, it would be better for her to exit the relationship when she had yet to fall too deeply inside.

She had been deceived once, so she would never wish to relive the same experience. Back then, Zachary also claimed that he loved her and would protect her. When she had a car accident, Zachary even pronounced that he would get her the best lawyer.

Be that as it might, all she had ever gotten from him was a break-up call at the detention center.

She had been shocked by the man who claimed to love her but watched a third wheel disable her hands gradually and stayed indifferent.

That jerk had also the gall to say that he regretted the most to make her his girlfriend, completely forgetting the fact that he once said he loved her.

She had been cheated, but she was not sure if it had only cost her a love affair or had the trust she had in people crumbled because of that.

Had it not been for Lillian’s companionship, maybe her trust in others would have turned to dust.

The instant Rosalie finished her sentence, she was tightly embraced by Jonathan.

“We’ll never break up!” A clear and crisp voice rang out laced with remnants of anxiety and an absolute resolution. Jonathan wrapped his arms so tightly around her, to the extent that she almost could not catch her breath.

Rosalie buried her face into Jonathan’s chest, and she could hear the man’s heartbeat over the shirt fabric. The rhythm of his heart thumping sounded powerful yet rapid at the same time.

“I’m just saying that. It’s a hypothesis, not real-”

“It can’t happen, not even hypothetically,” Jonathan interrupted the woman in a frantic. Her hypothesis made him panic as if it would all come true at a moment’s notice. To him, it seemed that even if he hugged her like that at that time, he still could not have her completely in his grasp.

“Jon… You… You’ve got to loosen it and let me go. I can’t breathe…” Rosalie could bear it no more.

Only then did Jonathan slowly loosen his grip but still held her in his arms. “Rosie, you must never break up with me, okay?”

As he hung his head low, his dazzling dark eyes shone with a sort of panic that she had never clapped eyes on before.

It appeared as if a breakup coming from her would overwhelm him and make him erratic from the inside out.

“Am really that important to him? I can’t even make up a hypothetical statement to break up with him now, can I?”

Rosalie asked herself.

Rosalie only felt a tightness in her heart, which made her rather uncomfortable. Almost unwittingly, she slowly raised her hands and gently hugged the man back.

“Okay, Jon. I’ll never break up with you.” With that, she gave the man an everlasting promise.

At that point, she did not even think much about what the price of her promise might entail. All she wanted was to alleviate Jonathan’s mood. His current expression was the last thing she wanted to see, for it pained her to see him that way.

The afternoon soon arrived. Rosalie and Jonathan returned to the hospital again. Her physical examination report was ready. The main problem turned out to be some old injuries on her body. Although she had already recovered from them, once the weather turned cold and humid, her joints would still act up and induce waves of subtle pain.

However, according to the doctor’s advice, as long as she recuperated for a long period of time, she would be fine eventually. It was nothing serious.

The most pressing issue would be the trauma Rosalie had suffered near her uterus area.

After the consultation with experts in the gynecology department of the hospital, they opined that Rosalie needed to take up courses of treatment first. When the treatment was done up to a certain phase, surgery might be able to help improve the condition of her womb. By then, should she hope to get herself a baby, there might then be a chance for her.

“Really? I really have the chance to have my own baby?” Rosalie was beyond thrilled all of a sudden. That had always been nothing more than wishful thinking, one that she had suppressed deep down for ages.

Yet, that wishful thinking of hers stood a chance to become a reality.

“It depends on the situation after treatment. Judging by the looks of things right now, there’s still a 30% chance of that happening,” stated the expert.

The chance of a mere 30% might come off as too low for others, but it was already a very high probability for Rosalie.

“Let’s start with the treatment first, then.” In the end, it was still Jonathan making the call.

Rosalie and Jonathan departed from the hospital after they obtained the prescription.

“Thank you, Jon!” Rosalie’s teary eyes turned red.

“Why are you thanking me again? Between you and I, we never needed those.”

“If you hadn’t brought me here for the physical examination, I’d never have known that I could still be a mom,” Rosalie murmured.

The fact that she could likely be a mother and have a family of her own flesh and blood was as if she suddenly realized that she was not that lonely anymore.

Jonathan pinned his gaze on Rosalie, who seemed a tad excited.

That seemed to be the first time Rosalie was exhilarated about her own affairs instead of being electrified for her family and

friends.

In the past, when it came to her own affairs, she always seemed to have the look of already coming to terms with that given, cruel destiny of hers. In other words, it was an act of her giving up all hope, herself, and her future.

At that juncture, though, she appeared hopeful for what the future might have in store for her.

“So, you want to have a baby of you and I, don’t you?” The man parted his thin lips, letting the question slip.
