Millie was still in a daze as she was being lifted up.
She looked up. Her lips slightly brushed against Winston’s cheeks, startling him.
Millie swallowed. She wrapped her arms around Winston’s neck subconsciously and lowered her
head.
“Winston, take Mills to the hospital to get treated now!” Gloria said hurriedly.
Winston’s Adam’s apple bobbed. After acknowledging Gloria, he held Millie tighter.
Frowning, Simon wanted to follow them. Winston shot him a cold glance. “Are you doubting my abilities to take care of her?”
Simon stopped in his tracks immediately and said with a smile, “Of course not, Mr. Greer.”
The blood dripped from Millie’s hands and onto Winston’s neck. The smell of the blood and the sticky sensation made Winston panic and uncomfortable.
He looked at Millie with mixed feelings and quickened his steps.
Millie raised her head and looked at his side profile. She wondered if she was mistaken, but she actually saw a trace of concern in Winston’s eyes.
Joanna was just about to follow them when Jake stopped her.
“Ms. Lowell, don’t concern yourself with a married couple’s matters. Jake was smiling and appeared
friendly.
Joanna looked at him with an unfriendly gaze. “Jake! They’re getting a divorce!”
“You said it yourself. They’re getting a divorce and haven’t completed it yet.” Jake chuckled, still wearing a playful smile.
Joanna was rendered speechless. She made her way around Jake, but he quickly caught up to her and blocked her way again. Jake crossed his arms, looking nonchalant, but was firm in not letting
Joanna follow Winston.
“Jake, you!” Joanna was furious. She could only stop there and watched as Winston carried Millie
away.
She bit her lower lip, feeling her blood boil. She had planned to knock down the wine tower with the waiter. And when she was hurt, she would slander Millie, but why hadn’t things gone according to her
plan?
Outside the hotel, a gentle breeze blew. Yet, Millie felt like her wounds were buring, as if they were being scraped by the wind.
Eli pulled up to the entrance. Winston got in the car with Millie in his arms, making sure to be careful.
Eli drove quickly. While holding Millie’s shoulder, Winston called the hospital. “Arrange for medical staff to be ready in the emergency room immediately!
He sounded very anxious and panicked. For one second, Millie thought she was Joanna. Because everytime Joanna was hurt, Winston would take care of her like that.
Millie couldn’t help but say, “Winston, I’m not Joanna. Her voice was hoarse.
“I know that,” he replied coldly while staring at Millie. He wasn’t so stupid as to not be able to tell the difference between her and Joanna.
Millie gulped and trembled slightly. She wanted to clench her fist but couldn’t.
He knew? Then why would he treat her this way? Didn’t he hate her to her core?
As if sensing her puzzlement, Winston pretended to be annoyed and explained, “Don’t overthink it. We were at Grandma’s birthday banquet. I can’t possibly let her see Simon carrying you away.”
Millie was startled, after which she smiled. It turned out that was the reason.
Hearing Millie’s laugh, Winston’s heart felt even heavier.
Eli glanced back before speeding up once more.
Soon, they arrived at the hospital. Winston laid Millie down on the bed carefully.
The doctor on duty in the emergency room had long been waiting. With him was another doctor from the dermatology department who specialized in scar treatment.
The doctor quickly removed the shards of glass from Millie’s hands.
Millie frowned and looked away. Winston stared at her, watching her close her eyes without saying
word.
Perhaps the doctor had exerted a bit more strength, because Millie muttered, “It hurts.” Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.
Her voice was very hoarse, and there was a hint of weakness in her tone.
Winston swallowed. He walked up to her and pushed the doctors away. In a cold voice, he said, “Let me do it.”
Millie instantly raised her head. When she saw Winston looking at her from above, she asked, “What are you looking at?”
