Chapter 1302
Colby shot a glance at Odie, who was blocking Sophie's way, and his eyes turned icy cold.
Odie, at a loss for words, looked at Colby and said, "I wasn't done talking."
Colby replied with a cool detachment, "Well, you're done now."
Odie turned to Sophie and said, "I still have something to say..."
"Mr. Odie, I'm heading to bed. You should catch some sleep too," Sophie said with a dismissive wave. Odie's expression darkened even further.
Soon, Sophie was outside her room, and Colby made a point of closing Odie's door as he left.
Seeing this, Odie was about to burst out and confront Colby, but Jonah quickly stepped in to stop him.
"Boss, you're still hurt..."
"Injured or not, you think I'm scared of him?"
Odie made a move to storm out, but Colby opened the door first, his tone nonchalant, "If you didn't like me shutting your door, I'll just leave it open for you." That remark completely set Odie off.
"You son of a..."
Before Odie could finish, Jonah clamped a hand over his mouth.
This wasn't Summerfield.
They were at Burke Estate.
Gordon was on Sophie's side, and if anything went down, he wouldn't back them up.
Besides, even if they returned to Summerfield, it wouldn't change a thing.
The Mintons weren't in charge anymore.
Sophie followed Colby back to her room, and once the door was closed she asked, "What's up? thought you weren't worried about me. So why were you eavesdropping with Jenna and the others?"
Colby's voice softened, "How could I not worry about you?"
"If you were worried, why'd you let me chat with Odie alone so easily?"
Sophie edged closer to Colby, teasing, "I don't believe you're not jealous."
Colby pressed his lips together, "I don't want you to feel hemmed in because of me, and... it was just a talk. He can't whisk you away." Hearing this, Sophie couldn't help but chuckle.
She wrapped her arms around Colby's neck, gave him a gentle kiss, and said, "I still love seeing you get jealous."
Colby cracked a slight smile, tapping
her forehead lightly, "Then don't give
me so many reasons to be jealous.
I've never been a fan of
Laughing, Sophie snuggled into
Colby's arms, "When everything's et
settled can we bring Dawn over? She's been away from us for so long, she must be lonely."
"Sure," Colby murmured.
Sophie glanced at the ledger on the table, a wave of unexplainable anxiety and fear washing over her.
"We both need to come out of this alive."
"Of course."
"Colby, what if one day we end up like my parents did?"
"Why the sudden pessimism?"
"I'm just worried the person behind this is more powerful than we think."
"It won't come to that."Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
Colby gently brushed Sophie's hair, reassuring her, "At worst, we'll face it together. I'll always be by your side."
