Chapter 248
Chapter 248
Lucas looked down but didn’t reach out to pick it up.
A moment later, Lucas took out another cigarette.
In fact, he never liked cigarettes. He only cared for an occasional cigar. But he began to smoke cigarettes after a gathering with Hari and their friends after he divorced Jessica.
Harry told Lucas that Jessica seemed to have been with Terry.
After hearing that, Lucas felt upset and picked up a cigarette on the table.
The smell of nicotine was very strong. In fact, cigarettes didn’t smell or taste good. Yet when the smoke entered one’s mouth and lungs, it would numb his senses for a moment, shielding him from reality.
That was exactly what Lucas was doing now. He knew Jessica was the plotter. But the question remained whether Jessica was still in love with him or not.
Was she?
Lucas exhaled a mouthful of smoke and found that the question kept lingering.
He couldn’t stop thinking about it even when he was smoking.
Lucas took out the dumbphone again and read two hundred odd text messages one by one. This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.
Eight years.
It contained Jessica’s love for him for more than eight years. The messages stopped when they got married.
If he counted their three-year marriage, it would be 11 years in total.
How many eleven years were there in a person’s life?
Not many
One-tenth of Jessica’s life was about loving him. How could she just stop loving him all of a sudden?
Lucas did not believe that Jessica was no longer in love with him.
Jessica didn’t sleep well last night, either. It was very late when she finally fell asleep.
What Terry said last night made her recall what happened five years ago.
Not long after she divorced Lucas, Terry snatched a bracelet from her and said that it was his.
Jessica didn’t know how the bracelet appeared in her hand. Perhaps she had met Terry before she entered Lucas’ room?
That was the only explanation Jessica could have. Otherwise, how could Lucas be the one who was lying beside her, naked, the next morning?
That night she was drugged and lost consciousness, but when she woke up the next day, she was completely sober. The man beside him was indeed Lucas.
Obviously, Lucas did remember what happened that night. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have got Jessica wrong.
Since Wendy didn’t get a result, Jessica decided to let the whole thing go.
But what Terry said yesterday reminded her of the bracelet. She wondered what on earth had happened that night. How come she had Terry’s bracelet when the man beside her was Lucas?
Jessica felt angry, but she didn’t know what to be angry about. She grabbed a pillow and hammered it a few times.
After venting her frustration, Jessica calmed down.
Jessica wanted to know the answer, but she didn’t want to see Terry for now.
She had already entered Terry’s number on her phone, but she didn’t dial it in the end.
Jessica didn’t wake up until 10 a.m. What had happened at yesterday’s wedding brewed.
Some reporters waited for Morgan at the hotel where he stayed. They finally got to speak to Morgan and May at the airport in the morning.
Several reporters rushed up to Morgan, asking him to give his comments on the wedding. The bride should have been Jessica. Why was she replaced in the end?
Morgan had been holding back his anger against Justin for a long time. Now that he had the chance, he vented it all bluntly. “I think you’ve all got something wrong. The wedding was for Mr. Thomas and Miss Cheek. That was the original plan.”
“Then why did you appear at the wedding?”
“You should ask Mr. Justin Thomas why he sent me the invitation. Personally, I didn’t want to come. I don’t think it’s proper for the groom’s ex-parents-in-law to show up at the scene, yet Mr. Justin Thomas insisted.”
The reporter got even more excited. “But before the wedding, the Thomas family clearly stated that Miss Hall and Mr. Thomas are preparing to get married again. If the wedding held yesterday was not for them, why hadn’t you clarified it?”
“Is that so? I’m sorry. I was too busy to have noticed that. But the Hall family never made any statements. I think that’s very telling. We have no idea what was really going on with the wedding.”
