Chapter 44
When Dylan found Nelson, he was smoking in the chilly night breeze. Nelson's expression looked cold amidst the wisps of smoke.
His recent physical intimacy left Nelson looking disheveled. At a glance, he appeared sluggish and seemed like a stranger to Dylan.
Nelson glanced sideways when he heard the noise.
"Has Gerald left?"
"Yes. Mr. Ingram has truly fallen for her."
Dylan roughly recounted the conversation between the two in the ward.
Nelson didn't say or comment on anything. He tossed the half-smoked cigarette to the ground and stubbed it out with his foot.
After a while, he said, "Tell Justin I want his car."
Dylan was rendered speechless. He thought it went without saying that Justin wouldn't want the car any longer.
Justin had bought the car just a few days ago but barely had the chance to use it properly before its interior became messy.
When Dylan received a call to drive the car somewhere else, he blushed upon opening the car door.
He glanced from the rearview mirror and saw the Nelson at that time appeared even more listless than at present. His shirt was unbuttoned, and his broad chest had a few scratches.
Nelson walked toward the inpatient department, but Dylan didn't follow. Sabrina was lost in thought when he arrived at the ward and didn't even notice him.
Dylan mentioned that Gerald had fallen for her. Nelson wondered if it stirred her heart.
When Sabrina raised her hand to wipe the tears from the corner of her eyes, she noticed Nelson. They stared at each other for a while without talking.
Nelson approached the hospital bed and glanced at the IV bag, asking, "How are you feeling?"
Sabrina replied, "I'm fine."
"Really?"
Nelson didn't believe her. He had been to the hospital a few times, and the doctor had mentioned after the blood test that there was still a heavy dosage of the drug in her system.
He knew she was lying.
Sabrina felt very uncomfortable under his gaze, so she bit her lips and lay on the bed.
She was dumbfounded when Nelson grasped her wrist. She felt a sharp pain on the back of her hand.
He removed her IV needle, and there wasn't any blood on the back of her hand.
"Let me help you. It'll be better than this."
Nelson continued gazing into her eyes. Despite her reluctance, the drug effects made her body react otherwise.
…
After leaving the hospital, Gerald went to the hotel where Sabrina had her social engagement. Knowing that Justin was also there, he felt like even breathing hurt.
Despite the piercingly cold weather after a drizzle, Gerald felt nothing.
Justin heard a knock on the door. When he opened it, he saw Gerald.
Gerald entered wordlessly and sat on the couch, lost in thoughts.
After a while, he asked, "Was she in the car?"
Justin saw his red eyes. Despite his reluctance, he nodded in confirmation.
Gerald's lips trembled.
"Do you know what it's like to be on the verge of becoming her official boyfriend, only to end up as someone she didn't want to meet anymore?"
He had looked forward to holding her hand but wouldn't have the chance anymore.
"Gerald, I know you're upset. Just forget about her since you already know the truth."
"If Sabrina didn't want to see me because she didn't like me or was disgusted by me, I would definitely leave her alone."
Justin took a deep breath before asking, "What are you trying to say?"
"What does that guy take her for?"
Gerald wondered why Sabrina and the man ended up getting back together when they were about to split up. He felt that the man didn't respect Sabrina because he didn't ask her opinion.
He dared not think about how Sabrina must have felt when he knocked on the car window. Now that he knew her situation, he couldn't leave her alone.
Justin watched the grim-looking Gerald leave and stopped him. Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.
"What are you planning to do? Are you going to cause trouble over a woman?"
Gerald looked at Justin.
"I didn't ask you about that man's identity because I didn't want to put you in a difficult position. So, don't stop me from doing what I want."
Gerald stopped at the door before walking out and said, "Although I'm late, there's nothing to be ashamed of. I don't feel regretful either."
The incident had strengthened his resolve. He liked Sabrina and wanted to treat her like a princess —to love and pamper her.
