Chapter 365
I guess I underestimated Ethan Foster and Gloria.
Even though they were both behind bars, one only got a three–and–a–half–year sentence, and the other one got extradited due to her foreign nationality. It was hard to say if they were really punished or not.
But there was also some good news. Dad had finally been released, and new investigations into Oscar’s death concluded that Bonnie was the one to blame. Oscar was about to leave Rosemont, but Bonnie invited him over for one last time. He went, but never came back.
Hannah Morse was so angry when she learned the truth about Oscar’s death that she could have killed Bonnie on the spot. But Bonnie had already been arrested, so she could only be punished by law.
And it was not just about Oscar. Bonnie had a lot of other dirty laundry that had been aired in the tapes that Malinda gave me. Even if she wasn’t in jail, she’d be condemned by everyone.
“Dad!”
My mom and I stood outside the prison, waiting for my dad. When he appeared, I couldn’t help but shout.
My mother’s eyes reddened, and she walked up to greet him with me.
After seeing Mom and me, Dad couldn’t contain his excitement. He hugged us tightly, and at that moment, I felt like our family was complete.
On our way home, I told my dad all about what had happened lately.
After listening, he frowned. “Are you and Neil planning to get back together?”
My mom sighed. “I don’t approve, but Neil did put in a lot of effort for you to overturn the case. And ever since you came back, he’s been trying to make amends. It’s your call.”
“What do you think?” Dad turned to me and asked.
Lately, I have been in touch with Neil. We hadn’t cut off contact completely because of Karina, but we had been talking less.
He must have known by now that Hiram was his son. He must be feeling pretty confused.
I shook my head and said, “I’m not sure. Should we leave this place? Mom said she wants to give up the company.” Exclusive content © by Nô(v)el/Dr/ama.Org.
“Give up the company?” Dad was taken aback. He knew that was the company Mom had worked so hard to build. He used to tell her not to work so hard, but she never listened. Now she was the one who wanted to give up.
“Yes, I’ve realized that health is much more important. As long as our family is safe and healthy, that’s enough. Rosemont isn’t right for us. I want to live somewhere else.” My mom was looking at me the whole time she was saying this, and I knew it was mostly for my sake.
If there were no more complications between Neil and me, Mom would never want to leave here.
I didn’t avoid her gaze. Instead, I asked, “If I leave here, it means I might never see Russel again. Can you accept that?”
“Yes.” Mom replied very firmly. “If it’s meant to be, we’ll see each other again.”
Her answer made me feel a bit better. I didn’t want to force myself to be with someone I didn’t love.
When I got home, Hannah had prepared a lavish dinner to welcome my father back. We hadn’t eaten together like this in a long time. It felt like a dream.
Since I had decided to leave this place, the handling of the company would be a big issue. Mom found a reliable friend to entrust with the transfer of the Finch family’s company. We just needed to pack up and prepare to leave as soon as possible. If there was anything that needed to be handled, we would send someone back.
I had no objections to this arrangement.
I thought Neil might not want to hold me back anymore. After all, he was now facing a dilemma he couldn’t untangle.
“Are you really leaving?” Stella and the others were reluctant to see me go; they were always asking me about it.
“Yeah, I’ll let you know my new address. You can come visit when you have time. But remember, don’t tell anyone else, especially you, Stella. Don’t tell Mitch!” I warned Stella.
Even though I thought Neil wouldn’t necessarily come looking for me even if he knew my new address, I still wanted to remind her.
Stella was pregnant now, and Barbara‘ kids were already a month old. If I left, they would have to wait a while to visit me. It was not easy with kids. Only Alicia would have an easier time.
“I get it; I won’t tell Mitch. You and Neil…” Stella didn’t finish her sentence.
“You all know that Karina is back, right? Sometimes there’s no need to humiliate yourself.” I gave a light laugh and took a sip of my bitter black coffee. Suddenly, it tasted awful. I should be drinking milk,
orange juice, or something sweet and sour. Otherwise, the bitterness in my heart would only be magnified.
Stella and the others exchanged glances; their expressions looked complicated. Karina’s resurrection and Bonnie’s arrest had been the talk of the town. Neil had once targeted Gloria and others, so it was hard to say whether Karina could accept him.
can’t believe someone could come back to life after being dead for so long.” Alicia couldn’t help but exclaim. “If I hadn’t seen her with my own eyes that day, I would have thought the news was fake.”
“I heard she has a son… Neil’s son? Is it true?” Stella asked, looking puzzled.
“It should be. I’ve seen her son, and he looks just like Neil.” I replied.
Stella’s face changed color, and she fell silent..
Just then, my phone rang. It was Karina. I haven’t been to her for treatment since that day, but she called every three days to remind me. I really didn’t get what she was up to..
And I didn’t block Karina’s number either. I was not even sure what I was thinking.
Chapter 365
Lhúng up the phone and then got a message.
“Ms. Finch, you’ve already paid for the treatment. I can continue whenever you’re free. But I’ve moved. If you need me, come to Grandeur Oaks Estates.”
When I saw ‘Grandeur Oaks Estates, for some reason, my heart ached.
Did Neil move Karina and her kid there?!
But what right did I have to meddle?
This time, I finally blocked Karina’s number. I didn’t want to hear anything about Neil and Karina anymore. Whatever happened to them was none of my business.
All I could do was leave decisively when Neil came looking for me.
After the party, I headed straight back to my place in Sapphire River Community. In Rosemont, we only kept the mansion here. I had put all the other houses up for sale, because there was no point keeping them.
