Chapter 356
Neil walked straight into the living room, completely ignoring me. I guessed he was probably thinking about that little boy.
Even though he denied my suspicions, we were both adults; how could he not have a shred of doubt?
“Um, I’m here to pick up Daisy. Can you arrange for someone to drop me back home?” I didn’t want to stick around, but judging from Neil’s demeanor, he wasn’t likely to drive me home.
However, Faith chimed in. “Stay for lunch, and we’ll have Neil drop you off later.” She grabbed my hand and led me into the living room. It was hot outside, but the living room was cool. Neil was sitting on the couch with a glass of water in his hand, seemingly lost in thought.
I sat to one side, quietly observing him.
Feeling my gaze, he looked at me with a cold glint in his eyes. “Still doubting me?”
I replied calmly, “No, it seems like you’re the one doubting yourself now.”
Faith, not understanding our conversation, asked, “What’s going on? Doubting what?”
I shook my head. “Nothing, just some work stuff.”
Neil didn’t explain, nor did he try to avoid Faith. He just told me, “I will get to the bottom of this Snow thing, and everything will be clear then.”
To prove that the little boy wasn’t his, he was willing to investigate the matter about Snow. I found this quite surprising.
I’d always been curious about Snow, so if Neil wanted to look into it, all the better; his investigative skills were far superior to mine.
Faith didn’t understand our conversation, but this time she didn’t ask further. Instead, she left us alone and went into the kitchen to prepare lunch. NôvelDrama.Org owns this text.
“Ethan Foster might be getting suspicious.” Neil suddenly said, “We need to get those documents as soon as possible and deal with the issue.”
I was surprised. “Why would he suspect us?”
“Bonnie has been bringing up the engagement recently, and I haven’t given her an answer yet. What do you think?” Neil asked me back.
I frowned. “But we can’t get those documents that quickly. Gloria is very cautious around me; she hardly ever lets me into her company, and the same goes for Ethan Foster.”
“So I’m thinking of agreeing to get engaged to Bonnie. Can you handle that?” Neil looked at me, waiting for my response.
I was taken aback. “Just to get that document?”
Neil gave a faint smile. “What else could it be for? We’ve come this far; we need to resolve this as soon as possible. We need to divide and conquer, understand?”
He laid out his plan for me. I felt like it was risky, but it was worth a shot.
I thought about my father and Oscar and agreed to go along with Neil’s plan, so we could resolve all these issues in one day.
We chatted for a while, and before I knew it, Faith was standing not far away, grinning at us. I was quite startled. Her motherly, pleased expression made me feel awkward.
“Did I interrupt you guys? I just wanted to say that lunch is ready. Are you hungry? If you are, let’s eat.” Faith quickly dropped her motherly smile when she noticed my awkward expression.
“Sure, thank you for your hard work.” I got up and thanked her politely.
Faith chuckled and said, “If you like my cooking, you can come here every day for meals. I’d be happy to cook for you.”
I didn’t respond and just went to sit at the dining table.
Neil, understanding the situation, sat across from me instead of next to me. This made Faith very angry. She pointed at the seat next to me and said, “Neil, sit there!”
Neil frowned. “Isn’t it the same if I sit here?”
Faith walked out with a cold laugh, and in no time, she had brought Daisy in. “That seat is for Daisy; get your butt over here!”
Neil reluctantly moved to sit next to me, but what he said next infuriated Faith. “I’m planning to get engaged to Bonnie.”
The room seemed to freeze over as silence descended on the table. Even though. I was somewhat of an outsider, I felt my heart tighten at that moment.
After a few minutes, Faith slammed the table, her face flushed with anger. “Neil, I told you, if you dare continue with Bonnie, I won’t acknowledge you as my son anymore. Are you serious? What’s wrong with Irene? Why choose Bonnie again?”
“You can’t force feelings.” Neil’s casual remarks made Faith even angrier.
Keeping this from Faith was a bit unfair, since she genuinely wanted Neil and I to reconcile. But for the sake of making Neil’s decision to get engaged to Bonnie appear genuine, we had to keep her in the dark Faith would definitely discuss this with her friends, and then everyone would know that Neil wanted to get engaged to Bonnie.
“I disagree!” Faith’s tone left no room for negotiation. “Neil, Irene has loved you for so many years; you are the one who wronged her. It was your fault that she wanted to divorce you in the first place. I won’t agree to you marrying anyone else but Irene. Do what you want!”
Faith warmed my heart a little. Was she standing up for me?
Neil glanced at me, his eyes somewhat helpless, but then he reverted back to his indifferent self. “Regardless, I will get engaged to Bonnie. You can’t stop me.” With that, he got up and went upstairs, as if he didn’t want to argue with Faith any longer. While watching his retreating figure, Faith tried to grab his hand in anger but was brushed off.
Faith stood still. “You gave up Irene for Bonnie, and now you’re giving me up too?”
hope you can respect my decision. Neil’s tone was so cold that it could freeze water. He’d probably win an Oscar if he were an actor.
Nell’s decision made Faith very emotional, but she was truly helpless. Whether in terms of career or love, Neil was a very independent person. His family couldn’t control him.
After sitting for a while, I got up. “Could you please arrange for a driver to take me home? I have things to handle.”
“Irene, relax; I won’t let Neil and Bonnie get together; just give me a bit more time.” Faith spoke like she owed me something.
“Actually, Neil’s got a point; you can’t force feelings. Why don’t you just let him be with Bonnie?” I replied with a smile, trying my best to make my face look a tad bit sarcastic.
