Chapter 283
"I'm going to the police station tomorrow to take the compensation."
Naomi's tone was neutral. There was not a hint of aggression, anger or reluctance in her tone. It was as though she had already anticipated the outcome, and it was, in fact, an acceptable outcome to her.
Charles' expression softened as he stared at her. He knew she accepted this simply because she did not want anyone else, especially her family, to worry, nor did she want to make this a bigger issue than it was. The truth was, she had never wanted to bring Olivia down. The only reason she had filed a police report in the first place was to ensure at least something came out of this. In this case, Olivia being forced to compensate her for what she had done was the most acceptable outcome.
If anything, all Naomi wanted was justice, and it did not matter which form it came in: monetary compensation or a lawsuit. All she wanted was a process in which Olivia would be proven guilty and her crime would be recorded.
Charles smiled at this. Sometimes, taking a step back did not mean one had lost. In a way, Naomi had won as she had gotten the ending she wanted.
"Alright. What time are you going tomorrow?"
"At noon."
"I'll go with you," Charles said, smiling.
Naomi turned to stare at him. He was gazing at her with a look of approval. She smiled at this and replied, "Okay."
The two of them entered the elevator, and Charles proceeded with the conversation from before. "As I was saying, I went to visit your parents yesterday. I told them that I was coming to visit you, and your mother asked me to pass some stuff to you."
Naomi was a little surprised by this. She was rather surprised that Charles would have paid her parents a visit shortly before coming to Herland. "Are they doing okay?"
Charles nodded, smiling. "They're perfectly fine, but they miss you very much. They're very worried about you. They're wondering how you're doing in Herland all by yourself." Naomi felt a surge of happiness creep into her heart. "Tell them not to worry. I can take care of myself."
She knew her parents loved her very
much. Although she had gotten married and then divorced Scott, her parents still treated her like a child. They were always worrying about her even though she was already an adult and could fend for herself.
Charles replied softly, "Mr. and Mrs. Goodwin are just worried because you'd never been to Herland before. Not to mention now you're here all by myself. I can understand their concern."Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
Naomi nodded. "I know."
With that, she smiled and gazed at Charles. "Thank you, Charles."
Charles was an incredibly thoughtful person. He knew Naomi would be wondering how her parents were doing in her absence, so he paid them a visit shortly before coming to Herland. That way, he would be able to answer her concerns when he saw her.
Charles shook his head. "It's no trouble at all I've been so busy over the past few weeks. I decided it would be good to make a short
weekend trip to take my mind net
off
things. Besides, I heard that Herland is a great place, and since you're here anyway, I decided to pay you a surprise visit."
Charles stared at Naomi intently when he said this. He did not admit that she was the reason he was even here.
He did not want to make his feelings known. Not yet, anyway.
Although he had intended to confess his feelings to her on this trip, now was not the time to do so.
Naomi's eyes crinkled as she smiled. Like always, the warmth of her smile felt like a ray of sunshine parting the clouds.
She knew why Charles was explaining himself. He did not want her to feel guilty or indebted to him for coming all the way to Herland to see her.
Charles was always so thoughtful.
"That's perfect. I've been in Herland for a while now, so I've come to know this place very well. I'll show you around town tomorrow, once I make that trip to the police station."
All of a sudden, something occurred to her. "By the way, when are you going back?"
