Chapter 1244 A Fair Competition
Chapter 1244 A Fair Competition
Several sword intents surged toward Caleb.
Bang!
Confident of his physical defense, Caleb used his palm to defend against the incoming attack.
"What?" However, a sharp pain radiated from his palm the moment it touched the sword intent. The
agony he felt was so intense that his face paled.
The pain didn't stop there. Instead, it ran up his arm and spread to his shoulder.
In the next moment, he couldn't see clearly as a mist of blood hindered his vision.
"What?!"
"What happened?"
"The old man's arm has been severely injured!"
The audience burst into an uproar. Caleb's mighty palm had failed to defend against Darren's sword
intent! And if that wasn't shocking enough, the damage to Caleb was bewildering as well!
Although they had witnessed it, the audience couldn't believe it. After all, the young man was just a
cultivator at the upper-level of the Domain God Realm. How could he have such powerful sword intent?
An expression of shock replaced the smile on both the Gambling King's and King Winfred's faces. They
never thought that Darren could display such a strong sword intent.
"That brat has hidden something from us. He not only has secret skills, but he also pretended to be
injured. We've been tricked." By then, the Gambling King also realized that contrary to the rumor,
Darren had not been injured.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The crowd was still trying to process what had happened when Darren's god's power surged in the
arena.
The black god's power condensed into several flying dragons, which attacked Caleb. A few moments
later, Caleb's body was riddled with holes!
Panic and a sense of foreboding enclosed Caleb in their icy grip.
He had trusted his strong physical defense, but it was worthless in front of Darren's god's power.
Darren, on the other hand, remained expressionless. He knew that his black god's power could
penetrate people's bodies, and so, he was expecting this result. Besides, the new sword intent he had
just comprehended had the same effect, albeit less powerful than his black god's power. However, after
the merge, the sword intent improved, which allowed him to break Caleb's defense.
"Well, are you still so sure that you can defeat me?" Caleb shuddered as Darren looked at him
emotionlessly.
Meanwhile, the Gambling King appeared livid. He balled his hands into fists at the thought of the
several hundred million killing points he would lose if Darren won. Even though he was rich enough to
afford such a loss, giving away hundreds of millions of killing points felt torturous.
"I've underestimated you, boy. Now, I will have to kill you!" A hint of cruelty flashed across the Gambling
King's eyes. Then, he recited something in his mind, and an invisible light flew toward the arena.
It fell over Caleb's head and entered his body.
Swish!
A golden light shone, and in the span of a breath, all his wounds were healed. Moreover, his aura
increased significantly, which amplified the pressure on Darren.
Darren frowned when he felt that something was wrong. He soon realized that this change in Caleb
must be the work of the Gambling King.
"Kill!"
Darren growled as he rushed forward. He couldn't afford to give Caleb any chances now that he had
help. The battle needed to finish as soon as possible. Otherwise, he would be the one to lose his life.
The sword intent and the black god's power attacked Caleb in unison.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
A string of crisp sounds rang out. A layer of golden light blocked each of Darren's attack, and he was
unable to break through Caleb's defense.
Such a change shocked and confused Caleb. He didn't know that he had such a skill.
"This is your doing, right?" King Winfred asked with a mirthless grin on his face. Copyright by Nôv/elDrama.Org.
"Don't talk nonsense! As I've always acted according to my conscience, how could I secretly
manipulate the bet? I will not spare you if you slander me!" the Gambling King turned to face King
Winfred and growled.
"Is that so?" King Winfred said indifferently. With a shrug, he continued, "How can you fool me? This is
my arena. Why don't we both stop pretending? I claim half of your gains as payment to keep your
secret."
The Gambling King raised his eyes and glared at King Winfred ferociously.
"Blackmail. Are you sure that's the wisest thing to do? You are seeking death." The Gambling King
made his intention clear.
"Humph. Even though you know that I arranged this battle, you still dare to play tricks. Isn't that the
same as insulting me? Don't blame me for this mess. You started it. All I want is a share of the spoils. If
you refuse, I will tell everyone that you're manipulating the duel and deceiving them. Think about it,"
King Winfred threatened. He ignored the killing intention on the Gambling King's face.
"Do you think you can bully me? These people are nothing before me. Go ahead and tell them. I don't
care."
"Don't play dumb with me. If I tell them, you will get to keep the eighty million points. But what will the
scandal do to your future? Who will dare to participate in your bets after they learn of your tricks? Your
reputation will be ruined. When that happens, you will lose your prospects!" King Winfred spoke calmly
with his hands clasped behind his back. He didn't seem even the least bit flustered as he knew that the
Gambling King would give in and agree.
Hatred and resentment reflected in the Gambling King's expression as he glared at King Winfred.
King Winfred was right. His reputation was more important than these points, and the consequences
would be disastrous if the Gambling King lost his credibility.
"Great! You got me! I'll give you half of my profit this time. But I have to warn you. Be careful. You may
not live long enough to use the points, even if they're in your pocket. Humph!" Although his voice was
faint, the anger in his words was hard to hide.
"Thank you. I will take care of myself and my points. You don't have to worry about me." King Winfred
grinned triumphantly.
The Gambling King tore his gaze from him and turned to watch the two figures in the arena. He had
nothing left to say to King Winfred.
At this moment, confusion reflected on Darren's face. How was it that despite repeated attempts, none
of his attacks could break through Caleb's defense?
"Darren, even God is on my side. You shall cease your attacks and kneel in front of me!" Caleb
sneered.
"Shameless old thing. Playing tricks and fooling people is no skill. It doesn't matter if you win this duel.
Deep in your heart, you will know that you are a fake. What's more, you will never go further no matter
how much you cultivate."
Everyone knew that faith was integral to success in cultivation. If a cultivator lost his faith at a critical
moment, it would be impossible for him to break through.
Although Caleb appeared arrogant now, inwardly, he was panic-stricken.
First, Darren had severely injured him in a few moves. For Caleb, who was at the low-level of the
Celestial God Realm, he would rather die than be humiliated. His defeat had already caused a fatal
setback in his desire to pursue martial arts.
Secondly, with Caleb's cultivation base and insight, he perceived that someone was deliberately
helping him, which was why he suddenly became stronger. And, he knew it was the Gambling King. His
faith shattered when he discerned that he could only defeat a young man at the Domain God Realm
with others' help.
Darren's words echoed what Caleb already knew. Even if he could win today, he had lost the most
essential thing in his pursuit of martial arts.
Caleb felt as though he could hear nothing but the pounding of his heart.
"Boy, I'm going to have a fair competition with you." After taking several deep breaths, Caleb calmed
down enough to make this declaration. He had been obsessed with enhancing his cultivation level all
his life, and he would never allow anyone to ruin it. He decided to reject the power no matter who
imposed it on him.
"If you do, I promise that I will not kill you even if you lose," Darren reassured.
"Ha-ha. You will not win!"
As he spoke, Caleb trembled and forcefully dispelled the power within him. A stream of golden air
spurted forward, and his aura returned to normal.
