Chapter 2197
Chapter 2197
After being startled for some time, she tried her best to calm down and returned to being her usual serious self.
However, her efforts were all in vain. When she tried to change the topic, she had accidently revealed her real thoughts.
"Daddy, I just remembered that there's something important that I have to do back in the Cultural City and I need to get it done by today. Is it okay if I leave now?"
Anne sounded fearless and straightforward. However, when she noticed Hendrix's sharp eyes, she immediately lost her confidence and shrunk away. Even I was shocked by Hendrix's glare. I thought that there was some misunderstanding between them. So, I quickly got up and held on to Hendrix's arm to prevent the situation getting worse. I said, "Calm down and take it slow. You're scaring her."
It was as if Hendrix couldn't hear me. He continued staring at Anne, as though he were trying to figure out what she was thinking.
It lasted for a few seconds before Anne finally gave in. She looked down and was very upset.
"When did you find out?" Hendrix asked coldly.
"Find out about what?" I was confused. I looked at Anne and then back at him. I had no clue what they were talking about.Content rights by NôvelDr//ama.Org.
Anne lowered down her head even further and tried to change the subject. "I don't understand what you're talking about. Since we're done here, I'll need to head back. After what happened yesterday, I wouldn't want anything to happen at Cultural City. Please let me leave."
"We're already here. Are you still going to be stubborn about this?" Hendrix continued. It was obvious that he wasn't going to let Anne leave. Although I felt that he was acting a little too aggressively towards her, it seemed that whatever had happened wasn't a simple matter. So, I didn't stop him.
Anne however, knew that I could convince Hendrix. So, she thought of an idea and started talking to me instead.
"Mommy, you know how important Cultural City and the club is to me. You'll support me, right?"
"Of course." I nodded without
hesitating, then paused for a
moment and added, "But your dad isn't being unreasonable here. He seems very serious right now.
Perhaps he really has somethi
say to you. The company is
to
important, but family should always come first. Let's listen to what he
has to say, okay?" Content belongs

Anne frowned even deeper. She knew that she couldn't convince us anymore.
Seeing Anne being so upset, I couldn't bear it either. So, I urged Hendrix to hurry up and get to the point so that we could put an end to this awkward atmosphere. "Lately you've been talking without getting to your point. You shouldn't treat Anne like how you treat your business partners. Even though she's independent, she's still young. Just be straightforward and skip all this all this guessing games."
Hendrix's eyes squinted slightly as though he was thinking about what I had said.
However, this didn't work at all. He spoke again in a very cold tone, with a blank expression on his face.
Hendrix pointed at Monique's grave and asked, "You really don't know who's in there?"
Anne looked extremely uncomfortable. After a few seconds of silence, she suddenly bowed to us. "I'm sorry, daddy and mommy. I really have to go back to Jarold City!"
After that, she turned around and walked away. She quickened her pace as she ran.
Right before Anne started running, Hendrix raised his voice and shouted at her, "Josiah isn't leaving. No one is!"
Anne stopped moving but didn't turn around.
Hendrix took a deep breath. Inside the quiet cemetery, I could hear the helplessness that Hendrix was feeling through his voice.
"Just because the both of you aren't
related by blood, no matter how
good your mother treats you, you couldn't Care less about her. Yet, you lose control when that person is leaving you for a faraway place. Moanna, do you really not feel any guilt at all?"
