Chapter 99
Chapter 99
Angeline frantically shook her head. When the meaning of Evander’s words sunk in, she hurriedly packed her things and followed him downstairs.
He had probably contacted the manager in advance so that there wouldn’t be any press waiting for them at the private elevator.
As soon as Angeline got out of the elevator, she felt the biting chill through her clothes. She involuntarily shivered and even coughed a few times.
After they got into the car, Evander switched the heater on. The interior of the car got warmer and warmer, and Angeline eventually stopped feeling cold. This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.
While her gaze was fixated on the view outside the window, Angeline suddenly felt a bottle of water land on her. “Take the medicine or get out of my car,” he ordered in a cold voice.
She was rendered speechless.
Is he going to let me off here? Isn’t that the same as throwing me to the wolves?
Angeline was not that foolish. She hurriedly took the medicine out of her bag and swallowed it with a sip of water.
Not long after, drowsiness started to hit her. She leaned back against the headrest and gazed at the view outside the window. It was then that she noticed they were not heading toward the film set.
She parted her lips, wanting to ask something, but she was unable to gather the strength to even mutter a word.
Yet, for some reason, she trusted Evander and believed that he wouldn’t hurt her.
In the end, she didn’t say anything. After holding out for a few minutes, she fell into a deep sleep.
Half an hour later, Evander pulled into the entrance of the Golding residence. He gazed at Angeline, who was fast asleep, and smirked in resignation.
In the next moment, he opened the door and carried Angeline out of the car.
His arms were wrapped around her waist in the gentlest embrace as if he was afraid that he would hurt her.
Floretta was stacking toy blocks on top of each other in the living room when she heard the door open. Without even turning her head, she heard Francesca’s voice from behind her.
“Mr. Golding, what brings Ms. Sorelle here?”
Angel?
When Floretta heard Angeline’s name, a look of joy appeared on her face. She immediately threw the toy block in her hand and ran toward Evander.
“Angel…” Floretta called out to her happily, but Evander put a finger to his lips, gesturing for her to stay quiet.
She immediately shut her mouth, not daring to say a word, and followed Evander upstairs in silence.
Angeline was fast asleep because of the medicine and didn’t even stir given the loud noise.
As she was very light, Evander didn’t break a sweat from carrying her.
He placed Angeline on the guestroom bed and tucked her in. Floretta went up to the bed and stared at her in confusion. “What happened to Angel, Daddy?”
“She took some fever medicine,” Evander replied briefly.
When she heard that, Floretta nodded her head in a daze.
I always sleep for a long time after taking medicine. And I don’t feel very good when I’m sick!
Evander pulled Floretta to his side. “Stay away from her, or you might get infected.”
“I’m not scared. I want to stay here and take care of Angel!” Floretta said stubbornly. Tears sprang to her eyes as her heart ached for Angeline.
Evander was speechless.
I don’t know if she’ll also take care of me like this if I’m ill.
He called Francesca up to take care of Angeline and picked his daughter up.
Without caring about how much she was struggling, he said in a low voice, “You better think this through, Floretta. If you fall sick, you can’t go to kindergarten.”
Floretta pursed her lips and stopped thrashing around.
She believed that Francesca would take excellent care of Angeline.
After making sure Angeline was settled in, Evander returned to his room and took a cold shower. He stood under the water for a long time, and the water eventually cooled the fire that was burning within him.
He took a towel off the rack and wrapped it around his waist. When he lifted his gaze, his eyes landed on the lipstick stain on his suit. His mind instinctively went to Angeline’s slender body that was wrapped around his.
He swallowed thickly, and desire burned in his cold eyes.
Meanwhile, Olivine was on the phone at her house.
“What did you say? How did you fail? Are you that useless? She was right in front of you, and you couldn’t even get her!”
After she was informed of what had happened, she grabbed the vase atop the coffee table and threw it on the ground.
“How f*cking dare you say that? Are you trying to do me in? I was in the middle of doing it when Evander suddenly burst in. If not for my men in the police force, I would have spent the rest of my life behind bars.” The man on the other end of the line was also speaking in a nasty tone.
“What did you just say? Evander was the one who rescued Angeline?”
“Yes, I had a good look at him. Who the f*ck would dare to touch Evander’s woman? I’m warning you. You better take this sum of money as compensation for the trauma I’ve suffered. I will not return a single cent to you.”
“You—”
Olivine was angry and anxious at the same time. But before she could say anything else, the man had already hung up.
“Why is this happening?” she mumbled to herself.
Her knees buckled underneath her, and she fell onto the couch. She dug her nails into the couch, leaving long marks on it.
When she thought of Angeline and Evander being together, she gritted her teeth in jealousy.
It was not difficult to imagine what Angeline would do with Evander after she was drugged.
Although he was someone with lots of self-control, no man could hold back in that kind of situation.
Olivine was filled with regret. She had wanted to ruin Angeline’s reputation, but it had completely backfired.
Angeline, you little b*tch! I will remember everything you’ve done to me and make sure you pay for it!
The sun was already high up in the sky when Angeline woke up the next day. She rubbed her eyes, still feeling sleepy. When she saw how bright it was outside, realization dawned on her.
What time is it?
She immediately sat up in bed, completely wide awake now.
She grabbed her phone and looked at the time. It was already ten in the morning.
Oh no!
Angeline ruffled her hair, on the verge of a breakdown. Usually, she would already be halfway into the workday at this hour. But now, she had skipped work without even a word to anyone. Derek was bound to go off on her.
At that thought, she quickly threw on the clothes that were lying next to the bed. Just as she was about to head to the bathroom, she realized that something was amiss.
Wait. This isn’t my house!
Angeline slipped on a pair of slippers, opened the door, and peeped downstairs at the top of the stairs.
Evander was in the middle of breakfast in the dining room. He was flipping the newspaper in one hand and holding a coffee mug in the other. When he heard movement, he lifted his head to look at her.
“Why are you so frantic?” he frowned, sounding a little upset.
“I… Sorry, may I know why you brought me to your house last night?”
“It was troublesome otherwise,” he replied briefly as he sipped on his coffee.
Troublesome?
Angeline was stunned. I don’t understand. Wouldn’t it be easier for him to just send me to the hotel the film crew had booked?
