Her Precious Baby

Chapter 83

Chapter 83

Aggrieved, Angeline stubbornly retorted, “The floor in your house is too slippery.”

Evander scoffed, clearly not buying her explanation.

He then shoved his hands into his pockets and stated dully, “Sylas had sent Jacob to a safe place, and his assistant had come to pick him up. The reporters didn’t manage to take any substantial photos of the incident, so they wouldn’t be able to write any nonsense.”

Upon hearing his words, Angeline finally heaved a sigh of relief.

Angeline looked at Evander gratefully and said with sincerity, “Thank you, Mr. Golding. I won’t bother you for too long. Once this all blows over, I’ll move out.”

“You’re not living here for free. Floretta shall be under your care for the time you’re here. She likes playing with you, so I hope that you can keep her happy.” Evander’s voice was monotonous. It was hard to tell what he was thinking.

When Angeline heard that, she no longer felt as stressed as she was before. “Don’t worry. I’ll take good care of Floretta.”

“Good.”

Staring at Angeline, Evander’s response was curt as complex emotions swirled discreetly in his eyes. In the end, however, he decided against speaking and turned around to head to his study.

Gazing at his tall silhouette, Angeline exhaled. The more she spent time with him, the more she realized that he was not as cold as he appeared to be.

For example, just a second ago, it was obvious that he had wanted to ask her if she truly got pregnant before marriage, but he chose to remain silent and protect her dignity instead.

“Ms. Sorelle, I’ve gotten everything ready for Ms. Floretta’s bath. Would you like me to help?”

Francesca emerged from the storeroom holding a pink basin as well as body wash and shampoo of the highest quality for Floretta.

Snapping out of her daze, Angeline nodded. “That would be great. Thanks!”

“It’s no problem. I’m usually the one who would give Ms. Floretta a bath.” Francesca chuckled as she led Angeline into Floretta’s small bathroom.

When they headed inside, Floretta was already sitting in the bathtub, yawning. Angeline quickly removed the girl’s clothes and bathed her with warm water. Just as she was helping the girl put on her pajamas, she remembered something.

“Francesca, there’s a small mole on Floretta’s neck. Was she born with it?” Angeline inquired.

“That’s right.” Francesca, who was wiping the basin with a towel, paused in her tracks as a tender smile appeared on her face. “I noticed the mole the moment Ms. Floretta was brought home. I remember thinking to myself that Mr. Golding did not have a mole when he was younger. I wonder who she got it from.”

When Angeline heard that, her expression shifted. Strange emotions flooded her heart as she looked at Floretta, but she did not dare to continue that train of thought.

It can’t be Evander. Perhaps the mole is just a coincidence. Maybe Floretta and I were fated to meet each other!

With that thought in mind, Angeline’s expression eased. Once she had gotten Floretta into her pajamas, she carried the girl to bed.

“Angel, can you sleep with me tonight?”

Just as she was about to leave, Floretta grabbed her arm and pleaded.

Unable to say no to the adorable little girl, Angeline caressed her hair and smiled affectionately. “Sure. How about a bedtime story?”

“Okay!” Floretta was so excited that she didn’t feel as sleepy anymore. All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.

As such, Angeline took off her shoes and tucked herself into bed next to Floretta, allowing the little girl to nestle in her arms as she told her a story.

Francesca stepped out of the bathroom after she was done cleaning. The moment she saw such a heartwarming scene, tears welled in her eyes, and a smile played on her lips.

Angeline’s presence made the dull and boring residence a lot more lively than usual.

How nice would it be if she can always stay in the Golding residence!

The next morning, when Evander rose from bed, a joyful atmosphere greeted him when he entered the dining room. Angeline had gotten up early and was feeding Floretta breakfast.

“You’re up.” Angeline greeted him immediately with a smile upon noticing him. “I’ve made breakfast. Come have some.”

When Evander heard that, he arched a brow in surprise as he stared at the food on the table. There were fresh buns, hot meat stew, waffles, and puffs. It was quite a fancy spread of breakfast.

“You made all of these?”

The sound of a chair scraping the floor could be heard, and Evander was seated at the table in no time.

“Mm-hmm. I woke up early, probably because I’m not used to the new environment yet. Since I couldn’t sleep, I decided to prepare some breakfast. Have a taste. If you don’t like it, I can make something else

tomorrow.” As she spoke, she filled a bowl with stew and served it to Evander.

What time did she wake up to be able to make all of this so early in the morning?

At that thought, traces of warmth lined Evander’s usually cold expression. He began tasting the food, and a pucker gradually appeared between his eyebrows.

The stew melted in his mouth, its flavor delicious and balanced.

To his surprise, he thought that Angeline’s cooking was far better than that of a five-star professional chef.

“How is it?” Angeline asked out of curiosity, She tried guessing his thoughts by reading his expression but to no avail.

“You can sleep in. You don’t have to get up so early and prepare breakfast.” Evander’s tone was as indifferent as always. There was no telling what he thought about the food while he continued eating the stew.

Angeline felt dejected upon hearing his response. Disappointment inundated her. “Okay.”

With that said, she stood from her chair and reached for the bowl of stew in front of Evander to take it away.

Since he doesn’t seem to like it, I might as well get it out of his sight.

However, Evander thought otherwise. When she was about to take the bowl away from him, he immediately reached out to grab it. Alas, he was one step too late, and his abrupt action caused some of the stew to spill onto his suit pants.

“What are you doing?” Evander bellowed, his tone grim as he gazed down at his pants with disgust.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to.” Angeline quickly apologized as she tried cleaning his pants with tissues.

To her horror, the harder she tried to wipe it clean, the dirtier it got.

“All right. That’s enough.” Evander shoved her hand aside and left the dining room, his expression frosty as he headed upstairs.

After he left, Angeline lowered her head and fiddled with the tissue in her hands.

How could I have been so careless? I’m living under his roof. It has only been the first day and I’ve already caused trouble. I can’t believe myself!

As she berated herself and pondered over whether or not she should move out and stop causing trouble for others, she felt a tug. Looking down, she saw Floretta grabbing the hem of her shirt. Her cheeks were stuffed with buns, causing her to look like an adorable chipmunk.

“Angel, you’re so stupid. It’s obvious that Daddy likes your cooking.”

When she heard that, Angeline frowned. “Why do you say so?”

“Daddy is very particular about food. If he doesn’t like it, he will definitely ask Francesca to discard it, but instead, he was clearly enjoying the stew you made.”

Only then did Angeline realize that she had misunderstood.

Nevertheless, it was not like she had spent time with Evander on a daily basis before that. Thus, there was no way she could have known.
