Chapter 810: Death is an honour for him
Innocent’s reaction made it clear that something was wrong with Marco.
He didn’t even dare to think that something had gone wrong.
Back at The Ortis Family, Kemen paced the living room twice, a little annoyed, before pouring Carmencita another glass of water: “Don’t worry, Marco is fine, he’s never been on a mission without an emergency, so you don’t have to worry, did you hear what Dad said?”
Carmencita grabbed her glass of water and looked at him: “What about the older brother?
“I told you not to worry about it.”
“It’s a serious situation, isn’t it? Otherwise you and Uncle Pastrano wouldn’t be so exhausted. “Carmencita didn’t know exactly what was going on, but from the way they were both reacting, she could guess that the situation was not good.
Seeing that Carmencita didn’t believe him at all, Kemen let out a long sigh and said, “Yes, Marco ran into an unexpected situation this time, his whereabouts may have been leaked by an infiltrator, they went out on a mission and there was stormy weather, and the whole team got lost.”
Carmencita did not know exactly what Marco was doing on his mission, but she knew what it meant to be out of contact.
Marco is on a special mission, which has always been kept secret from the public. Apart from the top officials, it is impossible for anyone below them to know what mission he is on.
Carmencita’s face flushed white as she spoke: “Where did you go on your mission?
“Carmencita, what do you want?” Sensing that Carmencita’s tone was subdued, Kemen spoke cautiously, “Do what you have to do, and stay out of these things that don’t concern you.”
Kemen didn’t want to talk to her too much and turned away with the intention of going upstairs.
His daughter, whom he knew better than anyone else, would not have let it happen like this if she had known what had happened.
With regard to Marco, Carmencita will not, of course, leave it at that.
Stopped Kemen: “Dad!”
Kemen sighed and said: “Do as I say.”
Seeing Kemen’s tired face, Carmencita also felt a little uncomfortable and stepped aside to let Kemen pass.
Kemen looked at her and shook his head, “Carmencita, Marco’s mission this time is top secret, I don’t know much about her, even Old White doesn’t know much about her, we’ll take care of these things, you’re still a kid, just take your turn.”
Carmencita tugged at the corners of her mouth and nodded a little distantly: “Well, I know”.
Kemen knew that Carmencita knew the story when it came to big things and admonished her once more before turning to go upstairs.
…
Because of Marco, Carmencita did not have much energy to work the next day and kept making mistakes.
But everybody in the company knows that Carmencita has a very close relationship with her boss, so nobody says anything about her. Another reason is that Carmencita is always modest and well liked in the company.
At lunchtime, Barreda came to see her for dinner.
When she was asking, Barreda saw that she was not in a good mood and asked her: “What’s wrong with you, aren’t you used to being in the office?
“Get used to it, everyone has been very nice to me. Carmencita took a deep breath and turned her head to look out of the window.
“What’s the matter, weren’t you well two days ago?”
Lately Barreda has been staying in his flat in the centre and has not returned to the premises, so he is completely unaware of Marco’s affairs.
He handed the menu to Carmencita, who took it, turned two pages, ordered two dishes at random and asked: “Did you know that something happened to your older brother?
“What do you mean?” Barreda was drinking his water with a start, and looked at Carmencita with a serious face.
Carmencita then told Barreda what she had heard and what Kemen had told her.
Barreda wrinkled his nose and asked: “Is the whole team lost?
“That’s what my father said anyway, do you think he would do it …” Carmencita said and half forbade it.
There will be no such possibility.
Barreda’s face became more serious: “I’ll be back today”.
That night Barreda returned to the military compound with Carmencita.
Innocent had not yet returned when Barreda came back.
First he went to Conrado’s room.
Since Neto’s marriage, Conrado’s temperament has changed for the better, and although he is not as affectionate with Barreda, he is not as prejudiced as before.
Conrad squinted for a moment, as if he was somewhat unrecognisable as to who he was.
“Grandfather, it’s me, Barreda”. Barreda approached him and pulled the blanket over his legs, in a gentle tone.
Conrad looked him in the face for a few more seconds, very serious, before, as if finally recognising him, he said: “I don’t think I’ve seen you for a long time…”.
“Well, I’ve been a bit busy with work lately, so I’ve been staying at the centre.”
Barreda took a seat opposite him, reached out and touched the glass of water next to him, found it a little cold and poured him a glass of hot water again.
Conrad nodded and asked again: “Where is Marco? Where is he? Why haven’t I seen him for a long time?
“Big brother is on a mission, have you forgotten?”
“Yes, he is on a mission.
…
As he left the room, Barreda went downstairs and asked Eneas: “Eneas, how is grandfather these days?
Aeneas was preparing dinner and when asked about Conrad, he sighed and said, “He is in a good mood, but sometimes his memory is not so good, he seems to be forgetful.”
“We’re going to call the doctor to come and have it looked at tomorrow”.
Aeneas nodded hurriedly.
Thinking again of Carmencita’s words, she looked up and called Aeneas, asking him: “My father, has he been late home lately?NôvelDrama.Org holds © this.
“Yes, I don’t know what the boss is busy with, he usually comes back late, sometimes he comes back for a while during the day, takes a shower and changes his clothes and goes back out ….”
Aeneas then rambled on: “Such a big family and they don’t come back all day, the house is cold …”.
Barreda smiled and said nothing, but in his heart he knew that it did seem that something had happened to his older brother.
At dinner time he called Innocent and there was no answer.
Innocent did not return, so he waited in the salon until the early hours of the morning, when Innocent returned.
“Sweep?”
Innocent saw Barreda and froze slightly.
“Dad.” Barreda got up, poured himself a cup of hot water and handed it to him, asking, “Have you been busy lately? All this time coming home?”
Innocent leaned back on the sofa and craned his neck before saying, “Your brother’s mission is a bit of a problem.
Barreda asked: “What mission is he on this time?
Innocent sniffed and looked at him in surprise: “It’s confidential and I can’t tell you”.
“Carmencita said you couldn’t contact Big Brother, all their equipment was lost, there is no reason for us to know what mission they went on, but we are all concerned about Big Brother’s welfare.”
Innocent frowned, it seemed that Carmencita’s girl had listened to him after all.
But in this matter he would not back down either: “He is a soldier, in the line of duty, death is an honour for him, and his safety is our responsibility, don’t ask too much, and don’t follow that Carmencita girl blindly.
