CEO's Substitute Bride

Chapter 321

Chapter 321

Emmett returned to his room and replayed what Frances said in his mind.

There was no loophole in what she had said. It made perfect sense, but he felt that something was wrong.

Something was still missing in this whole thing.

Emmett felt that he still needed to meet Richard.

Richard and Frances got married when they were very young, but their relationship had gradually deteriorated over the years.

In his memory, Richard was a gentle and meticulous person. He had the romance of an artist and had made a name for himself in his early years. However, because he wanted to accompany Frances, he did not think much of his career.

However, in recent years, he had been busy with organizing different art exhibitions and participating in various activities. He did not even return to the Lawrence family to celebrate the Spring Festival.

What happened between the two of them that Richard didn’t even want to accompany Frances to Lawrence’s house?

Emmett made up his mind and went downstairs to find a maid to ask about Richard's phone number.

When he used to live at Frances's house, his relationship with Richard was pretty good. However, when he returned to Holston City later on, the contact between the two of them had gradually

decreased. So far, there was no longer any contact between them.

He dialed Richard's number.

The phone rang several times before it connected.

"Hello?" Richard's voice was very gentle. Dylan was very similar to him on this point.

Emmett said quietly, "Uncle, it's me."

Richard's tone was a little surprised. "Emmett?"

"It's me. Where are you now? Do you have time to sit down and talk with me?" Emmett hadn’t seen Richard for many years, but he knew that Richard would not reject his request.

Richard was silent for a moment before he said, "Of course, but I will not return to Holston City."

"I am in Country M, at your home."

The other end of the phone became silent again.

Emmett did not urge Richard. He just quietly waited for his answer.

"Okay. My exhibition is over this afternoon. I will go home tonight. But don't let your aunt know about this."

"I know."

Richard would come back in the evening. The time was just right.

After hanging up the phone, Emmett squinted his eyes and thought back what Richard had said, "Don't let your aunt know about it.”

After analyzing this sentence carefully, there was a lot of content.

Without letting Frances know, Richard was willing to have a chat with Emmett.

However, Emmett did not mention anything from the beginning to the end.

But Richard agreed from his side. Obviously, Richard knew what Emmett wanted to talk to him about.

This was a tacit understanding between smart people.

In the evening, Emmett and Richard talked on the phone and arranged to meet at a cafe in the city.

When Emmett arrived, it was exactly six o'clock.

He ordered a cup of coffee and chose a spot by the window where he could see the parking lot at the entrance, waiting for Richard to come.

After waiting for nearly half an hour, he suddenly heard a few screams.

Accompanied by a few screams was a burst of noisy footsteps and exclamations.

"Oh my god, there's a car accident!"

“Help!!” This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.

"How is he?"

"Call an ambulance."

Emmett frowned slightly and did not care about it at first.

However, he suddenly seemed to have thought of something. He stood up abruptly and rushed outside.

He elbowed his way in the crowd and walked to the person who was hit by the car.

The person who had been hit by the car was a middle-aged man. His white shirt was stained red with blood, and only his collar was still slightly white. His entire face had been hit so hard that his original appearance could not be seen clearly.

Emmett squatted down and wiped off the blood on his face. He could vaguely see his original face.

This man was Richard!

Emmett stopped and called out, "Uncle? Uncle? Richard??"

Hearing the shout, the man lying on the ground moved his fingers and then remained motionless.

Someone beside him took out Richard's wallet and saw the ID in it, "This man is called Richard Backer."

"God, is he the painter?"

"My daughter has always wanted to see his exhibition."

“Is he dead?”

At this moment, the police had already arrived.

"More aside. All of you, move aside."

The police chased away the other onlookers before walking over to Emmett and said. "Sir, please get up. Don't interfere with our work here."

Emmett stood up with a cold face and expressionlessly retreated to the side.

The policeman looked at the person lying and reached out his hand to check Richard's nose. Then he said to the policeman beside him, "He is not breathing."

The police packed up the scene and took Richard with them.

Emmett followed them to the police station and the policeman informed Frances.

When Frances came, she was in a daze. "Where is Richard? Where is Richard? What happened to him?"

The police came forward and stopped Frances. "Mrs. Backer, I beg your pardon."

Frances saw Emmett standing at the side and walked towards him. "Emmett, what happened to your uncle? How did he end up like this?"

Emmett raised his head and looked at the woman in front of him, whose eyes were red and swollen but she could not stop crying. He said, "I will accompany you to see him."

When Frances saw Richard's dead body, she immediately fainted.

Emmett stood alone in front of Richard's corpse with a heavy heart.

Even if Richard was not Dylan's biological father, he was still Justin's biological father.

Justin and Richard had a very good relationship.

But now he lost his father.

Richard's matter was still under investigation. Whether this accident was man made or an accident, there was no conclusion for the time being.

Because Frances wasn’t in good condition, it was Emmett who had cooperated with the police during the entire process to deal with these matters.

By the time the matter was settled, it was already midnight.

It was daytime in his home country.

Emmett sat by the flower bed outside the police station and called Alyssa.

The phone rang twice and was picked up by her.

Alyssa's gentle voice came from the phone, "Emmett?"

"I asked her about Dylan."

"What did she say?" Alyssa asked seriously.

Emmett told Alyssa what Frances had said to him before.

Alyssa was silent for a while and then she asked him, "Do you think so?"

It could be seen that Alyssa did not really believe this.

But now was not the time to investigate the authenticity of this matter.

Emmett's voice was slightly hoarse as he said, "Uncle Richard passed away in a car accident."

Alyssa thought for a while before she realized that Emmett's uncle was Justin's father.

Alyssa was silent for a moment before she asked, "Did you inform Justin?"

"Someone has already informed him." Emmett’s voice revealed a rare trace of exhaustion.

Alyssa naturally heard it and said softly, “Then have you had dinner?”

“No.”

"It is midnight in Country M. You need to take care of your body. Go and have a rest." They were so far away, so she could only give him a word of advice.

Alyssa had just hung up the phone when Frank called her.

What Frank told her was also the news of Richard's death in a car accident.

Frank heard it from George's men in the company.

Alyssa did not know that Richard had a car accident when he went to an appointment with Emmett, so she only thought that it was just a simple car accident.

In the end, Alyssa said, "Frank, you should go to Country M with them. Emmett's father will also go to Country M with Justin. I have no problem staying in Holston City alone, but it is not convenient for Emmett to stay alone in overseas."

Frank actually wanted to go with Emmett to Country M, but Emmett didn’t let him follow. Now that he heard Alyssa say so, he no longer had any worries. That day, he flew to Country M with George and the others.
