Chapter 6 Alone
Chapter 6 Alone
In the hospital.
After a physical examination, the doctor’s expression was serious but not concerned. “Ms. White, your stomach problem should’ve lasted for quite a while, but luckily it’s not too serious this time. Just pay attention to your diet.
“The reason why you had an attack tonight is you don’t have a regular and proper diet. By the way, Ms. White, what did you eat today?”
‘What did I eat?’ Alexia wondered. Alexia looked at Chaim awkwardly. During her lunch break, he startled her, then she worked overtime until the night. How did she have time to eat?
“Doctor, is there a cure for this stomach illness?” Chaim asked, frowning.
For no reason, he felt a little guilty when glancing at his wife’s pale face.
The doctor shook his head. “Treatment and management, yes. But no cure. Ms. White’s stomach illness isn’t serious after all. Just focus on following a healthy diet, eating regularly and properly, and providing the stomach nourishing foods for a while.”
The doctor wrote out a prescription and asked Alexia to rest while the nurse got the medicine before she left.
As soon as the doctor left, all of Alexia’s embarrassment she was managing took control and she looked everywhere but at her husband. Alexia squeezed her hand painfully hard and saw the sky outside the window was dark.
“The doctor said I would have to get an IV drip later. I won’t go back until late, and you should head home and get some rest.”
“It’s okay, I’m waiting here.”
Chaim’s face was blank, and Alexia was at a loss for what to say. Chaim pulled a chair next to the bed and sat down, taking out his phone as if he was going to handle official business. Although Chaim didn’t offer any words of comfort, Alexia couldn’t help but smile, looking at him sitting there with her.
She stared at him for a while, then mustered up the courage to mutter, “In fact, when I was sick before, I wished someone would come to the hospital with me.” ‘So I didn’t have to be alone,’ she thought.
Chaim looked up. Alexia’s face looked even paler in the light. When she lowered her head, she showed her slender neck, making her look extremely thin. By some chance, a sour feeling suddenly hit his heart.
He frowned at the unfamiliar feeling, trying to discern what it meant.
Seeing his expression, Alexia immediately worried her words upset him. Not wanting to make things worse, she hastily explained, “Don’t be angry. I’m not blaming you, I just—”
A sob in her throat cut her off, and it took her a while to regain control of her emotions…
On the day they got married, Chaim explained clearly that he didn’t like her at all. There would be no love between them.
“You’ll sleep first.” Chaim said coldly after Alexia composed herself.
“Okay…”
Alexia didn’t dare to say more and obediently closed her eyes to rest, fearing that the more she said, the more mistakes she made.
After working long hours that evening and all the stress that came from lying on the hospital bed, Alexia quickly fell asleep.
Chaim looked up at her sleeping figure and contemplated their marriage. Alexia was very pleasing and a comfort in his eye. Her face was delicate and beautiful. She had a pretty nose and fair skin, and although not a gorgeous beauty, she was pretty and lovely. Especially when she looked at him, there was always bright joy in her eyes…
Buzz!
The phone buzzed again, drawing Chaim out of his thoughts. With a sigh, Chaim grabbed his phone and strode into a waiting room to take his call without disturbing Alexia.
“What’s the matter?”
“Sir, Ms. Chi is not very well. The doctor said that surgery might be needed at any time. They need you to make a decision as soon as possible.”
Hearing the assistant’s nervous words, Chaim’s expression turned grave. “I will call the doctor tomorrow with my decision.”
“Okay, thank you, Sir.”
Hanging up the phone and heading back to Alexia’s room, he stood in the doorway looking at his wife inside, everything being far more complicated than he wanted it to be. This content belongs to Nô/velDra/ma.Org .
He had almost forgotten about his wife. And this time he came back for something else.
Ironically, when he looked at her sleeping face, he couldn’t say anything. But the matter needed to be resolved!
When Alexia woke up, the IV drip needle had been removed. She rubbed her eyes as the doctor came in.
“Doctor, I don’t think my stomach hurts anymore. When can I be discharged?”
“I’m afraid you won’t be discharged for now. Mr. Lancaster spoke to me and hopes you’ll stay in the hospital for observation for a few days. He wants to make sure your stomach illness isn’t serious.”
“Where is he now?” Alexia asked, surprised.
She struggled to sit up. If she stayed in the hospital, she would have to ask for a leave from work.
“Mr. Lancaster has already left. He said he would come back tomorrow. Ms. White, I think Mr. Lancaster’s worries are valid.”
After some persuasion, the doctor left Alexia’s room, a nurse calling for him.
Alexia couldn’t defy Chaim’s order, so she lay back against the pillows and dazedly fell asleep again.
The next morning, as she woke up and reached for the button to ring for a nurse for her breakfast, a commotion outside drew her attention. Not wanting to get in trouble, she hurriedly lay back down and closed her eyes.
When the door opened, she pretended to just be waking up and opened her eyes, to find that the person wasn’t the doctor or Chaim, but Chaim’s grandfather, Rocco Lancaster.
