Chapter 13 Waiting
Chapter 13 Waiting
“Is that not OK?”
Her expression made him angrier.
Alexia really didn’t seem to understand her duties in the marriage and didn’t regard him as a wife should. Otherwise, why would his appearance surprise her so much? This content is © NôvelDrama.Org.
In the past three years, he never cared about those things. Now he was thinking about it, he didn’t even know what purpose his wife served at all!
“Of course there’s no problem, but—” Alexia squeezed her fingers. “Why are you sleeping with me tonight? Did you drink too much?”
“Does it look like I drank too much?” Chaim squinted as Alexia shook her head. “Then why don’t you see what you look like now?”
“Me?”
Alexia paused in surprise and looked down at her half naked body. She gasped and wrapped the blankets around her.
“I, I…” Alexia blushed and couldn’t seem to find her words.
Chaim stared coldly at her and sneered. “Didn’t you just take your clothes off in a flurry? Why cover it now?”
“I thought I was alone!” Alexia said, quickly picking up her underwear and hiding them behind her.
“As the woman of the Lancaster family, even if you are alone, you must pay attention to your image. Otherwise, you will tarnish the reputation of the Lancaster family and yourself!”
“I know.” Alexia lowered head in shame, “I won’t do it again. I’m sorry.”
Chaim snorted coldly and took off his coat as he left the room.
Alexia glanced at his back as the door shut and breathed a sigh of relief before walking to the bathroom.
Soaking in the bathtub, Alexia covered her face in hands, not being able to shake her nerves. She didn’t know what Chaim was thinking. Was he really willing to live and sleep with her now? Was it possible he wanted to be a proper husband?
Thinking of that, Alexia couldn’t help smiling, and sped up the bath.
However, when she entered the bedroom again, there was no one in the room, but the suit jacket was randomly thrown on the chair.
“Where did he go?” Alexia muttered and left the room.
In the living room, Aunt Song was still cleaning the floor.
“Aunt Song, have you seen Chaim?” Alexia asked, clutching the collar of her bathrobe.
Aunt Song stopped, “Yes, he just left.”
“He left?” Alexia raised an eyebrow in surprise.
It’s already so late.
Aunt Song nodded. “Yes, he answered his phone and left in a hurry. Don’t you know, Ms. Alexia?”
Alexia put on a smile, “He didn’t tell me…”
“Then it may be an urgent matter. Don’t let it trouble you though, Ms. Alexia.”
“I know; I’ll go back to my room.”
Alexia turned around, leaning on the railing of the stairs and slowly climbing them one at a time.
Lying on the bed, she stared at the ceiling in a daze until her eyes were sore. Then, she picked up the phone beside the pillow.
10:20 p.m.?
Alexia wasn’t sure whether Chaim would come back tonight.
But he’d never gone back on what he said, so he might be back.
Alexia sat up and grabbed the book she’d been reading from the bedside table to wait for Chaim.
Alexia tried to stay awake, but after an hour she finally gave up and fell asleep.
The next morning, when Alexia woke up and looked at the other side of the bed, she found it cold and flat. No one had slept there at all.
‘So, he didn’t returned all night?’
Alexia bit her lip but refused to get upset. She freshened up and went downstairs for breakfast. After only eating a few bites, Alexia decided her time would be better spent at the office and left.
As soon as she got out of the elevator, Alexia overheard several secretaries standing in the corridor, chatting. She subconsciously tiptoed toward them.
“Mr. Lancaster won’t be in the office today.”
“Why? I won’t have the motivation to work today if I can’t see Mr. Lancaster’s handsome face. Where did he go?”
“Really? Half an hour ago I heard Assistant Chiao answering a call. Mr. Lancaster asked him to take his clothes to the hospital.”
“Hospital?” After hearing this, Alexia rushed forward and interrupted their conversation.
“Chai… What happened to Mr. Lancaster?” Alexia asked anxiously.
Did he not come back last night because he was ill?
“Why are you asking us? You’re Mr. Lancaster’s personal secretary; don’t you know that?”
The three secretaries looked at her jealously.
Alexia shook her head.
“Well, you don’t know and we don’t know, either. If you care about Mr. Lancaster so much, you could ask him yourself. Anyway, it’s time to work, not that I want to, considering I can’t see the handsome Mr. Lancaster.”
Strutting in their high heels, the three secretaries walked past Alexia one by one.
Whether accidentally or intentionally, the last secretary to pass by bumped Alexia’s shoulder and knocked her back a few steps.
Alexia sighed, rubbing her shoulder where she was sure a bruise was forming.
The other secretaries excluded her when Chaim promoted her to be his personal secretary, so she only had Lynn to talk to. Most days, she had almost gotten used to it.
Trying not to think too much, Alexia took out her mobile phone and found the number she’d stored for three years, but had never called.
She stared at the familiar, yet strange, number for a long while. Squeezing her palms together, she couldn’t control her worry about Chaim, and finally tapped on the button to dial the number.
“Who is this?” The man’s low and cold voice came on the phone.
Alexia’s eyes dimmed. “It’s me…”
He didn’t even have her number stored…
