Beyond Beta’s Rejection Chapter 29
(Colton’s POV)
I sat with my head in my hand, feeling nothing as the redhead on her knees in front of me wrapped her mouth around my d**k. I wanted to relax and enjoy the feeling as she ran her tongue down my shaft and rolled her eyes up to look at me as she did it. I closed my eyes, grabbed her hair, and thrust myself into her, down to her throat. I pulled a picture up in my mind of HER as the sounds of the redhead gagging with each thrust filled the room. I imagined it was her on her knees in front of me, begging my forgiveness for daring to leave me. I began to get close to bursting with each thrust. I tightened my grip on the hair in my hand as my breathing got heavier, and I teetered on the edge of my climax as I imagined her beautiful-
A knock on the door pulled me out of my dream, and the pleasure dissipated instantly. I looked down at the redhead, whose face was stained with tears and mascara. I let go of her, and she fell back on her a*s on the floor.
“Geez, Colton,” she snapped. “I don’t mind the rough stuff, but give me a warning the next time” I glared at her, and she shrunk back in fear.
“That’s Beta to you. Now get the f**k out of my office.” She looked down and pulled herself off the floor.
“Yes, Beta, sir,” she said quietly and turned towards the door just as there was another knock. More like a pounding, so I already knew who it was.
“f**k sake!” I exclaimed. “Come in,” and the door flew wide open and slammed against the wall.
Marcus stormed into the room with a big grin on his face. He looked the redhead up and down and then glanced at me and rolled his eyes.
“Hey there, darling,” he said, and I watched as she blushed.
“I don’t have all day, Marcus,” I snapped. “What do you want?” Marcus turned towards me as the girl scurried out.
“Boss said to bring you these files.” He put a pile of brown folders on my desk.
“Seriously? Like I don’t have enough to do.” I looked at the mounting work and shook my head. I wasn’t leaving this place anytime soon.
“Take it up with the boss, dude.” He shrugged and then grinned at me. I knew he was trying to bait me into some sort of fight. He had been doing it since they had gotten here. The guy was a brute with more tattoos than bare skin. He acted dumb and carefree, but I recognised the eyes of a hunter and kept a close eye on him.
“What?” I asked, and his grin widened.
“You sound awfully stressed for a guy who just got off,” he said, and I glared at him.
“If you hadn’t interrupted, I might have, but now it’s not just your mere presence that irritates me.” I looked down at the files and sighed.
“How the f**k does he expect me to do all this on top of my usual stuff?” I suddenly found myself with three times as much work three months ago when his almighty Elias Owens took over the Midnight Moon pack. I was happy to finally get the Beta position that my father had been gripping hold of. But I didn’t want to get it as a result of seeing my father’s throat ripped out along with the Alpha’s. Things had changed drastically in the time that Elias had moved in. I had to be careful with who I talked to as more and more people seemed to be either disappearing or publicly siding with Owens.
I didn’t care if he was technically the new Alpha. He wasn’t my Alpha. I just hoped I could keep everything running until Damien gathered help. He had left a message through a secured line saying that he had, and it was on the way. He seemed rather happy about it, saying it would blow my mind. The guy sounded drunk, though, so I took his s**t with a pinch of salt. In addition to all the usual pack business, Elias had me going through every pack member and property holdings files. He wanted my opinion on everyone. I didn’t, for one second, believe he did. I think he was also trying to get me to break.
“Well, if you had more help, you would get through things quicker,” Marcus said, thumbing through the files, and I scowled at him.
“You offering?” I asked, and he shook his head.
“No can do, fella,” he said. “But I’m sure if you knew where that chicken s**t friend of yours was, he could help you” I glared at him again. “Where’s Damien, Colton?” I rolled my eyes. It was the same every day. They were so keen to get their hands on him. But despite the fact that he was hiding like a scared rabbit, he was still my best friend, and I wasn’t about to rat him out.
“You know the answer to that. I don’t know,” I snarled. “Now get out of my office. Can’t you see I have work to do?” I looked down at my papers and ignored him.
“Sure thing, dude, I think I’m gonna go find that piece of a*s that was just in here, show her what a real man is like.”
I rolled my eyes again.
“Sure, be my guest,” I said without looking up. I could feel him staring at me but continued to work through the file that I had open on my desk. After a couple of minutes, he eventually got bored, and I heard as he turned and left without another word. I looked up at the door that he had just slammed shut and grinned. I was taking that as a win.NôvelDrama.Org holds © this.
I finished the file I was working on and went to grab the next file when I saw a red tag sticking out of one of the files. I pulled it out to see it was a temporary entry request. A few of these had been since Elias had taken over, but they had all been denied. I had heard that was standard for his operations, so I was intrigued when this one had an approved stamp on it. I opened the file, and my eyes widened as I saw the name on the front page.
Harper Kirby.
It felt like an electric shock had run through my whole body. She was coming back. She had requested to come back, but why now? After all this time. Did she think that I had forgotten about her? Or did she crave me as much as I craved her? Was she coming back to me? If so, why didn’t she reach out? My head was awash with questions and scenarios. I needed answers.
I grabbed the file, left my office, and walked two doors down to the Alpha’s office. I resisted the urge to slam the door open and demand answers. Instead, I knocked and waited.
“Come in.” The clipped voice of our new Alpha called through, and I opened the door. The room was the same as it had been when Alpha Daniel had it, apart from the personal pictures that had all been removed and the addition of the heavy-duty safe pushed into the corner by the bar. The man himself sat behind the desk and, as always, dressed as if we were in a corporate office in the city with his three-piece designer suits. This one was grey with a black tie. He wasn’t wearing the jacket, and the arms of his shirt were rolled up, showing his arm ink. He looked up at me from his paperwork and looked a little pissed off at the interruption.
“What is it, Colton?” he asked.
I put the file on his desk, and he glanced at it before looking up at me.
“What of it? It’s an entry request of a former pack member.”
“Harper Kirby,” I said, and he looked up again. “Did she state the reason for the request?”
He took the file and looked through it. Towards the back, there was a picture of Harper from her school file. Seeing her beautifully sweet face hit me hard in the heart, and I stopped breathing for a second.
“She didn’t,” Elias said. “The request came through Thomas Kirby, her uncle, I believe.”
I couldn’t help the growl that sounded in my throat, and Elias glanced up at me before carrying on. “He requested that she visit due to the death of her father, from a heart attack, it says here.” Yeah, heart attack, sure. Very few people knew what happened that night, but that piece of s**t Kirby got what he deserved, that’s for sure.
“The request had originally been for two, so her boyfriend could accompany her, but I denied that.”
I growled at that. Her boyfriend! She had a boyfriend? The idea that another man would dare to touch my Harper sent fury to run through my veins. Elias quirked an eyebrow at my reaction.
“So I was right?” he asked. “She’s that Kirby.” I looked at him in shock.
“You know?”
“What? That your mate rejected you and ran away from town?” He sounded amused. “Of course, I knew. I make it my business to know everything going on in this town.”
“Well, you got one thing wrong,” I snapped. “She didn’t reject me. I rejected her.”
His head tilted slightly like I said something extra interesting. “But according to my records, you were one day off of your mate bond completion when she left.”
“Where the hell are you getting this information?” I demanded, and he raised an eyebrow.
“Check your tone, Beta,” he said, and I lowered my eyes. It was important that I stayed on his good side, for now at least.
“And as far as my sources are, that is just that. They are mine.” He looked back down to his desk and carried on. He had obviously done with the conversation.
“When is she getting in?” I asked, trying to keep my voice even, and he looked up again and sighed. He looked at the file and then at the clock.
“I would say in about twenty minutes, Kirby is meeting her at the southern border. Now can I please get on with my work?”
I nodded. I was done. I had somewhere to be. I went to grab the file, and he picked it up.
“No, it’s ok. I’ll keep hold of this one.” He had that dangerous look in his eyes, the one he had just before I saw him rip out my father’s throat. I nodded and backed away. He nodded and then put the file in his drawer, locked it, and then looked back down at his work. I took that as a signal that I had been excused.
I headed out into the hallway and stopped by my office to grab my car keys before heading out of the pack house. I jumped into my car and headed towards the southern border. I arrived and saw Tommy’s red heap of junk and another black car. I could see the other car was just beyond the border. The car didn’t have my main attention, though. I was more drawn to the two people standing in front of it. They were in an embrace that made me want to jump out of my car and race down and smash his head. The guy looked big, but I was sure I could take him easily enough. But the woman in his arms, and by the looks of her lean frame, she had grown into a beautiful woman indeed. She was everything I remembered her to be. And nothing the same. Her beautiful, dark golden brown hair still held the natural golden highlights and flowed down her back. She wore tight black jeans and a tight black vest top that showed her breasts had filled out nicely. Just remembering her perky little ones already made me hard, and I was looking forward to introducing myself to the upgrades. She walked confidently across the border, and I swear I felt as she entered the territory. She hugged Tommy, and even though I knew he was her uncle, I still didn’t like his close contact.
She glanced back to the probable boyfriend, who I could tell was staring in my direction. Harper followed his gaze, and I saw that as her eyes hit the car, something I couldn’t quite place crossed over her face. She got into the car, and Tommy got on the other side. I saw the boyfriend get in his car and start to drive away. That’s right, man, drive away. Don’t expect to see your girlfriend again. She’s mine now, and I’m not letting her go this time. I watched eagerly as Tommy’s car drove alongside mine, and, for just one shining second, I saw her. Our eyes met, and I saw her flinch. A smile crept on my face. Oh yes, she is most definitely mine.
I watched as the car disappeared up the road in my rearview mirror and then grabbed my phone and dialed the number. The phone rang a few times before the familiar feminine lilt answered.
“What do you want, Colton?” I ignored the blatant disrespect. I would deal with that later.
“Tell Harry you aren’t coming in to work tonight,” I said, “and get ready for me. I’ll be there in half an hour.” I ended the call, not bothering to wait for a reply, and started my car.
One good night of getting my frustration out, and then I was going to get my mate back and make her mine once and for all.
