Mia was worried sick. What if Hunter's roughness hurt the baby?
Seeing her defiant expression, Hunter's anger flared. "Mia, we're still married! Why shouldn't I be able to touch you?"
Taking a deep breath, Mia met his gaze, her voice steady. "Because I think you're filthy."
With Jenna pregnant, he still wanted to touch her?
Hunter's eyes narrowed as he leaned in, biting down on her soft earlobe. "You call me filthy? Well, now! especially want to have you."
Panicking, she forced herself to stay calm. "If you're frustrated because Jenna's pregnant, I can find someone else for you-someone clean," she said, trying to hold onto her composure.
But her mind filled with the unsettling thought of him sleeping with Jenna on the same bed and being with Jenna in the same way he had been with her. The thought alone made her feel sick.
Hunter's gaze darkened with a heavy air of menace. "Mrs. Jasper, how considerate and generous of you. Should I commend you for knowing your place?"
Mia turned her face away, refusing to meet his gaze. "I'm only thinking of what's best for you," she muttered, though in truth, she had no desire to be close to him.Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.
Hunter let out a low chuckle, his fingers teasing her with a deliberate, steady rhythm.
Mia's body couldn't resist his touch, responding helplessly as waves of sensation began to overwhelm her. She bit down hard on her lip, struggling to keep herself from making a sound.
Hunter noticed her resistance, a cold smile tugging at his lips as he guided her hand to his belt buckle.
"Mia, go on, undo it. Be good," he murmured, his tone unexpectedly soft, a stark contrast to the mocking glint in his eyes just moments before.
If Mia hadn't already known he didn't love her, she might have found herself falling again in that fleeting gentleness.
*With her gaze lowered, she whispered, resigned, "Hunter, what do I have to do for you to finally let me go?"
Hunter tilted her face up, his finger lingering against the tip of her nose as he teased, "Thaven't even started, and look at you, Mrs. Jasper. Acting like you don't want this, but your body's telling me something else entirely." A deep blush @rept over her cheeks as her eyes misted with frustration. She could control her mind, but not her body's reactions.
What was she supposed to do?
Hunter lowered his head, placing soft kisses along her ashes, the touch unexpectedly tender, like a lover's caress
For a fleeting moment, Mia felt as though he truly loved her. Her resistance started to dissolve, replaced by a gentle warmth that she wished would last forever,
But then the phone rang, snapping her back to reality. Hunter who had been leaning over her now stood straight, adjusting his clothes as he took the call.
"Yes, I'll be there tonight. I've already made sure Sam arranged the fireworks show. There won't be any issues."
Watching him standing there, polished and composed, Mia let out a bitter laugh. How foolish she felt.
Slowly, she sat up, her hands trembling as she shakily adjusted her own clothing. Once finished, she slipped off the edge of the conference table.
As Hunter finished his call, he noticed she had already left the room. Her words from before echoed in his mind, and he realized she was no longer the same woman who once doted on him unquestioningly.
With weak knees, Mia walked out of the conference room, leaning against the wall to take a deep breath. Her mind was still reeling when her phone rang. Seeing Mandy's name on the screen, she answered. "Mia, I just overheard some gossip," Mandy said excitedly. "Looks like our firm might have a new boss!"
Mia raised an eyebrow. "Who?"
