Chloe didn't expect Lucy to make a grab for it, so she instinctively stood up and held the phone high above her head.

They started to argue. Lucy grabbed Chloe's phone and chucked it into the fish tank just as she heard Michael coming back from the balcony.

"Chloe, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to!"

Michael walked in to find Lucy apologizing to Chloe.

Chloe ignored Lucy and snatched her phone.

She tried to turn it on, but her phone stayed dead.

Lucy feigned guilt as she approached. "Chloe, wipe it with a tissue. Your phone might work after a while. I swear, it was an accident."

Her fake apology angered Chloe once again.

Chloe shoved her away. "Back off!"

Lucy stumbled and fell in the direction Chloe had pushed her.

Her shin collided painfully with the nearby table.

Chapter 80: I Don't Blame Her Lucy doubled over in pain.

"Chloe's hurl."

Michael grumbled.

Michael stepped forward and gently held Lucy's arm. "Michael, don't blame Chloe," Lucy said. "It's my fault. I broke her phone, so it's only natural she's upsel." Michael steadied Lucy and said, "If her phone's busted, she can just get a new one."

Seeing the two of them so close made Chloe feel sick.

"Buy a new phone? You think I don't know that? What about my important files on the old one? Can you or she take responsibility for that?"

Chloe shot them a glare, grabbed her phone, and stormed off.

Listening to Chloe's rant, Michael felt a surge of anger.

Watching Chloe leave, Lucy couldn't help but smile.

She made some noise on purpose to catch Michael's attention.

"Michael, my foot's swollen and it really hurts. Can you take a look?"

She played the damsel in distress, leaving Michael no choice but to stay and tend to her wounds.

Chapter 80: I Don't Blame Her

"Michael, don't blame Chloe. It's all on me."

"I'm not blaming her."

Lucy froze.

She never expected him to let Chloe off the hook.

Lucy glared at Michael as he examined her ankle, anger flaring up inside her.

Her injury wasn't serious. Her foot wasn't twisted, just a light bump.

Michael helped Lucy onto the couch, then straightened up. He had no intention of sticking around.

"I've called the doctor. Just sit tight for a bit."

"Michael, don't go. I'm scared."

He gently pried her hand off his sleeve. "The person sending you those threatening texts isn't Chloe's friend. I'll get to the bottom of this. Don't worry."

He walked away without looking back. Lucy could only sit there, watching him vanish.

As soon as the door slammed shut, she hurled the cushion beside her.
