Branch Sixty Two
Jessica’s attitude did put Xavier off for a few seconds but he quickly recovered himself. Something about the way she spoke made him know that she was not in her right mind at the moment.
Xavier entered back into the station with Jessica’s hand firmly enclosed in his.
“Officers we have agreed to settle,” Xavier said when Jessica could not find herself to speak.
She wanted to be the one who would say that but she could not trust herself one bit. If she said any words she felt like tears would drop down her face.
“Thank you very much,” Burke said coming to stand in front of the couple and blowing down multiple times as he repeated the sentence.
“Come on Emma,” Burke said going to her.
“To do what?” Emma asked. She already felt the embarrassment of being at the receiving end of every one.
The crowd at the cafe had murmured until she was taken away. The police had treated her like trash and both high-class women had treated her worse than trash and now her husband-to-be was bowing down to Jessica.
“To say thank you and apologize,” Burke said tugging on her hand.
“Why would I do that?” Emma screamed at him.
Why should she be the one to apologize? Why was Jessica having a good life when she had tried all she could to make her miserable? Why was she living the dream of every middle and low class lady in the city?
She did not even have to work for it yet she was on top. Just always. Jessica has always been on top with no effort at all.Ccontent © exclusive by Nô/vel(D)ra/ma.Org.
“We do not need your apology,” Xavier said picking up Jessica’s bag from the chair.
“Are you leaving?” Alicia asked Xavier as he turned to leave.
“Yes, I need to get my wife home,” Xavier said with emphasis on my wife. He wanted to make sure that both the ex boyfriend and current girlfriend heard how happy they were.
The words from Xavier sent Emma’s stomach into a whirlwind. She hated that those words were directed at Jessica.
“Okay then, I believe that I would see you both at the launch?” Alicia asked.
Xavier tugged on Jessica’s hand and she nodded before adding “Definitely”
“Let the driver take you home Leslie,” Xavier said and turned back to the door. With strides that could keep up with the pace of Jessica Xavier led her away from the station to where his car was packed.
Alicia turned and walked to Emma she bent her head and looked her straight in the eye.
“You are pretty lucky they said they want a settlement,” she said which made Emma shiver a bit.
The sternness of her voice was strong enough to make anyone shiver.
“If I ever discover that you pull anything similar to this again. I would hunt you down regardless of what they want to do” Alicia said.
Emma felt herself gulp hard. Maybe she should have ignored Jessica then she would not be sitting on this cold hard station chair.
“I hope I have made myself clear,” Alicia said.
“ANSWER ME”Jessica and Xavier sat in the car in the parking lot quietly. Jessica wanted to tell him not to worry and just drop her that she would find her way back home but her voice could barely leave her throat.
Jessica suddenly felt a strong urge. It was like someone had taken a whip and whipped her continuously until she could not take it anymore. She felt tears drop down her face as she began to wail uncontrollably.
Xavier was thrown off guard as he was not expecting her to cry. He did not know what to do. He was not experienced in what to do when you want to console another person.
Jessica felt self-conscious and embarrassed that she was wailing her eyes out but she could not seem to control herself at all.
“Why are you crying?” Xavier asked worriedly.
Like a trigger, once the question left Xavier’s mouth Jessica felt the urge to cry more. Why was she crying? She thought she had cried all the last drop of tears when they broke up.
Was there anything more she could cry over? Was seeing both Burke and Emma together and happy something that should make her cry? Was the fact that the two of them were about to have a happy family the problem? Was it that Emma was now living her dream?
She wanted so desperately to have the baby of Burke. Was the fact that she might not get to have her own baby so sad?
“You would get a headache if you keep wailing like this,” Xavier said again.
He had no idea what to do to console her. He opened up the glove compartment and retrieved a box of tissues. He was glad that he listened to Brian and put the box there. He shoved it in her hand.
“Thank you” she murmured as she pulled some pieces of the tissues and blew her nose in it.
She felt her nose get stuffy but she could not control herself.
“Do you want to see the sea?” Xavier asked. “I like to see the sea when I am sad and can not cheer myself up” he added when he got no response from her.
He had just picked up their partner Jason who was from the Jameson family. He was supposed to be with him but he had dropped him off at his hotel room and rushed to the police station because of the report he got.
Xavier started the car when he did not get a response from Jessica and drove towards the seaside. He did not know what she did when she was having a hard day but maybe what he did would cheer her up.
As the drive started Jessica’s high-pitched and loud wails turned into silent and muffled sniffs and occasional coughs.
She was still finding it difficult to stop the tears but the ails were gone and she was left with silent cries.
If she knew a way to stop the embarrassment she was game but she could not
