Branch Forty Two
Since it has to be the next day before the decorator could come to decorate one of the rooms Jessica still had to sleep in the same room as Xavier. Xavier felt the temptation to ask her to reconsider changing her room. After all, they had settled their differences now.
Xavier lay down waiting for Jessica to join him as she was freshening up. Jessica came out holding a towel to dry out her hair.
“Ms. Gates is hosting a groundbreaking ceremony and we have both been invited,” Xavier said as soon as he got a sight of her.
“Ms Gates?” Jessica asked confused.
“The CEO of Couture Corner,” Xavier said like it was common knowledge.
She was a girl after all and it was the dream of every young girl of Chiachester City to own one of the pieces from the Couture Corner. Jessica has no idea who she was and tried to hide her embarrassment.
“Anyways so Ms. Gates is doing a groundbreaking ceremony the day after tomorrow for one of their new stores and she has asked that you come along,” Xavier said before laying down.
“Okay,” Jessica said unsure.
She was going to ask Leslie about it tomorrow. Leslie had promised that she would take her out for coffee and advise her on some matters.
Jessica lay in bed and before she could tell she was already in a dreamland fast asleep. Jessica was jerked back to reality by a loud knock on the door.
“Who is it?” Jessica said putting on her night coat. Her eyes glanced at the wall clock and it was just a few minutes to three am.
Jessica opened up the door and met Roselle standing there.
“So sorry to disturb you but the attention of the young master is needed urgently,” Roselle said.
It was obvious that sleep was still in her eyes and that she was just woken up. Jessica looked behind her to see Xavier sleeping soundly.
“Xavier is sleeping. Should I wake him up? What is the emergency?” Jessica asked.
Looking at how soundly he slept she felt bad for waking him up. Seeing the look on Roselle’s face she knew it would be wrong of her not to wake him up.
“What’s the emergency?” she asked again walking over to where Xavier lay. Roselle ignored her as she was unsure as to whether she should inform the lady of the news she had just received.
“Xavier” Jessica whispered shaking him slightly.
She got the memo that Roselle did not want to tell her or that she was not in a position to tell her. Xavier stored in the bed and turned to face Jessica. His eyes flickered open and he stared at Jessica for a few minutes before his hands go up to touch her face.
She took his hands and shook him back to reality. He stood up and she followed suit. He blinked multiple times to get himself back to his normal state.
“What is the matter? Why do you disturb my sleep?” he asked. Jessica was tempted to laugh at the way he spoke.
“Roselle is here seems like she has something important to tell you,” Jessica said turning back to her side of the bed.
“What is it?” Xavier asked standing up and going to meet her.
“It is Lady Genevieve,” Roselle said.
The name Xavier heard made him stop in his tracks. He looked around the room and sighed loudly.
‘What was she doing here?’
“What is she doing here?” Xavier asked voting out his thoughts.
“She did not say but she specifically asked for you,” Roselle said.
When Jessica heard the name she was curious but she did not want to be seen as a gossip so she laid back down on the bed.
“Couldn’t she sleep the night and wait till the morning?” Xavier asked grumbling as he went down the stairs.
“Nephew” Genevieve said as her eyes fell on Xavier coming down the stairs.
Genevieve Sullivan was his mother’s sister and she was the definition of the worst. When his mother was still alive she often showed up out of the blue to extort his mom and get money out of it.
One of the things that Xavier vowed not to forget as regards his mother and father’s death was how his aunt stormed in to get a share of the insurance claiming to be the only family of his mother.
Genevieve and his mother had shared the same womb for nine months yet they were nothing alike. Their parents had shared the family wealth between both girls. While his mom lived a conservative life and ended up as the lady of the Delgado family, Genevieve ended up in Las Vegas and spent all she had in casinos and hotels.
A few months later she was back and demanding from the Delgado family. She was family after all. Xavier was sure that she was back to ask for money.
“Are you not going to greet me warmly?” Genevieve said in a fake high-pitched voice.
“I am exhausted as it is, let’s save it for the night and resume in the morning,” Xavier said sternly.
“Okay then sweetie pie,” Genevieve said turning to face the help standing by her side. “Take me to my room” she added holding her bag.
She was dressed in bright and high-end brands. Her bag was even one from the couture corner. Xavier hadn’t seen her in about five years. The money that his grandfather had given her the last time must have lasted a long time.
The help showed her to the already prepared guest room in case of impromptu guests like herself. She was the only one who would show up to the Delgado mansion unannounced.
Jessica was worried because the expression on both Xavier’s and Roselle’s faces was not good. She stayed laying in bed as she waited for him. She saw the door opening and quickly closed her eyes to give the illusion she was sleeping.
She smiled when she felt the bed dip but it immediately turned to a frown when she heard the continuous sigh of Xavier.
“Is anything the matter” she heard her voice.
His continuous sigh had pushed her to say before she could realize it herself.Content rights belong to NôvelDrama.Org.
“It’s all fine, go to bed” Xavier responded.
He was not ready to dry his dirty linen and family secrets in front of her. She would look down on the Delgado family if she knew they had such an embarrassing family member.
“Just have a good sleep. I’m all good” he added once more.
