Branch Forty Five
“I know it would be hard for anyone in this family to trust me,” Genevieve said.
For some reason, the look in her eyes seemed to convince Jessica. People change right?
‘People change when they are about to die’ the thought crossed Jessica’s mind. She has heard of people changing drastically when they were about to go to the great beyond and it was probably the case for this woman.
“Are you terminally ill? Or about to die?” Jessica voiced out.
“Oh no,” Genevieve responded immediately.
She was not angry that Jessica thought that. Who wouldn’t think that? She had been a nuisance to the family for years and she woke up one morning and chose to work. It sounded strange but she knew she had a good reason for doing it.
“I changed. People can change can’t they?” she added.
“You’re sure you aren’t I’ll?” Jessica asked concerned.
“I am very healthy” Genevieve assured her.
“Okay that is good, for now, Xavier and I have been unable to conclude where you would be working so just stay around in the meantime,” Jessica said to her.
Genevieve nodded her head. She was even met with more hospitality than she expected after all she had been a pain in the *ss to the family.
Jessica opened her mouth to say something when her phone rang in her pocket. She pulled out the phone and saw the caller id. It was Leslie. They were going out today.
“Let’s talk when I get back,” Jessica said walking away.
“Hello,” Jessica said putting the phone on her ears.
“I have been waiting for your call,” Leslie said in an accusing tone.
“Oh I’m sorry I have had a busy morning” she responded sparing her the details. She did not know if she was a friend acquaintance or foe yet so the less she knew the better for both parties.
“It’s alright. What are we doing today?” Leslie asked excitedly.
“I need a dress, so I’m guessing we can start there” Jessica responded. She knew nothing about dresses so maybe the stylish woman in her ward the other day can be of great help to her in picking up a dress.
“Oh for what? The baby if your husband taking you on a date?” Leslie asked.
She was not still in support of Xavier but if he was going to make an effort to make Jessica feel better then she was going to be all for it.
“NO,” Jessica said almost shouting. The thought of Xavier taking her on a date sent up warmth up her cheek and no doubt she was blushing crimson red.
“Well, no need to scream. Your husband taking you out on a date is very normal” Leslie said.
“I never said it was not normal. It’s just that we aren’t at that place yet” Jessica said.
She just assumed that since she was the wife of Brian who was Xavier’s secretary she must have heard the situation surrounding the marriage.
“You can get there soon,” Leslie said in an assuring tone. “What is the dress for then?” she added not forgetting the original topic of discussion.
“Xavier said that one Ms. Gates invited us to an event,” Jessica said.
“You are already getting invited by Ms. Gates?” Leslie asked shock lining her voice.
“Yeah, what’s wrong?” Jessica said confused.
“Get ready I’m coming to get you NOW”
Leslie made such a fuss over the phone before allowing Jessica to go have her bath. Jessica put on a huge dress and strap sandals. She put on a little makeup that comprises her eye mascara and lip gloss before going down. She meets Dawson in the living room going through the television.
“I am going out now, I would be back right on time to make lunch for you,” Jessica said. Her plan was simple. Pick up the first beautiful thing and pay for it.
“Where to?” Dawson asked.
“Shopping with Leslie,” She said sitting beside him. She has agreed to meet Leslie at the store and she was going to take her time.
“You can’t be back in time for lunch then” Dawson answered with a smile on his face.
He knew Leslie because she once went after his grandson and he was all in support of her. He sponsored her lifestyle even though she came from money herself. He wanted his grandson to settle down and it was obvious that Leslie loved him.
After chasing him for two years with no positive response she settled down with Brian turns out she only had a massive crush on Xavier and proceeded to find love in his best friend and assistant.
“I would be back on time,” Jessica said.
Dawson smiled a little because he knew it was impossible but he wanted her to feel like she was right so he nodded.
“There is nothing new on here,” Dawson said using the remote to point to the television.
“Do you want to go with me?” Jessica asked.
Shopping was not one of the things that gave her joy or fulfillment like other girls. She was good with just about anything wearable.
“We can get lunch outside afterwards” Jessica added. This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.
If she could make Dawson tag along then there would be no reason for them to spend a lot of time in the store as they would have to consider the old man.
“And ruin your chance at making friends. I can’t be your only friend I would be bored” Dawson said in a sarcastic tone.
Jessica noticed his clever maneuver in avoiding going out.
“Are you sure?” she asked again. She needed the excuse and he was not going to allow her to use it to her advantage.
“Yes I am going now,” Dawson said urging her.
“I’ll be back soon. Do you want anything?”Jessica asked.
“No, I don’t” Dawson replied.
“I would be on my way now but if you remember anything you need do not hesitate to send me a message immediately,” Jessica said standing up.
“Get a cute dress” Dawson called after her as she walked away.
Jessica popped her head back into the room and smiles. “Are you sure you do not want to come watch me try them on?” Jessica asked.
“I am sure. Call Xavier he should be glad seeing you in dresses” Dawson said.
Jessica had a brief thought to call him but dismissed the idea immediately. She did not want to be seen as a disturbance. He must be working so she should not disturb him with useless requests.
“I am not sure he would want to come. See you when I get back” Jessica said before walking away.
