Branch Forty Eight
Xavier was in a board meeting with the head of departments and they were discussing how to improve their business model for the second half of the year when his phone chimed with a message.
He ignored the message as he hated to be disturbed by messages while working. Brian pushed open the door to the board room and walks to his boss.
“There is an emergency” he whispered into Xavier’s ear.
The whole boardroom went silent.Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
“I am in the middle of a meeting” Xavier echoed loud so Brian gets the message and hold up whatever was going on.
“It’s about your wife,” Brian said trying to make it sound urgent.
“How many more items do we have to discuss?” Xavier ignored Brian and asked the person heading the meeting.
“Two more sir,” he responded calmly. “But if it is an emergency we can pick up from where we stopped at a later date preferred by you” he added.
He would not want to get on the bad side of the person who pays him monthly. If Brian could interrupt the meeting then it might be very urgent.
“I would see you after the two agendas on the list are finished,” Xavier said dismissing Brian.
Brian had seen the post that Jessica made and he could not decode if it was a good or bad thing. He needed Xavier to decide immediately so nothing goes out of hand. Brian also knew his boss would not be distracted by anything thrown his way before the end of his meeting but he was happy he tried his best. He bowed and left the room.
At the entrance of the room, he dialed his wife’s number. She informed her husband she was going to meet up with Jessica today. Maybe they were together, he could get a situation report from her.
“Hello darling,” he said as soon as she picked.
“Hello Boo,” she said back to him. They were one couple in love.
“Are you with Lady Delgado now?” Brian asked. Working for Xavier had thought him to respect those who deserved them no matter his relationship with them. Jessica might not have gotten there because she wanted to but she was now the lady and she should and must be addressed as such.
“Jessica? Or yes we are together. She told me she needed help getting a dress for Gates events and I decided to help her pick a couple of things up too” Leslie told her husband.
He sighed over the phone. He should have known that the image circulating the whole internet would have only found its way there because of his wife. She was the only one that Jessica knew at the moment who could do that.
“Why did you take her out? Why did you encourage her to post such pictures?” Brian asked in a whispered shout as he began to walk away from the door.
“How do you know I did it?” Leslie asked ready to defend herself.
“You ask me that?” Brian asked with a long sigh at the end of his statement.
“Okay I did it but only because I wanted her to become strong and not fall out when she leaves that douche you call a friend,” Leslie said spelling it out.
“I guess you are right” Brian agreed. Apart from the fact he was against the divorce, it was foolish to argue with Leslie. He signed again.
“Is there anything you would like to say to her?” Leslie asked.
“No, you just have fun,” Brian said.
“I love you,” Leslie said to him.
“I love you ten thousand,” Brian said before cutting the call.
He sighed. He should have known the capability of his wife to do things like this. He supported her though.
“What could be so important about MY WIFE that you had to interrupt my meeting?” Xavier asked as he went to his table.
The meeting came to an end shortly after and Xavier came back to his office where Brian was waiting for him. Brain allowed him to take off his suit jacket and hang as he does before sitting down.
“This,” Brian said slipping the iPad that had the image of Jessica on the screen.
“Your wife posted this. It is a new dress from the gates line and the internet is going crazy” Brian added.
“And the reason why this is an emergency?” Xavier asked unable to see the reason why his meeting was disturbed.
It was just a woman in a dress. He did not understand what was going on.
“Well, is this good for you two? With the way you might end up,” Brian asked.
He was concerned about his boss but even more concerned about Jessica. Xavier was born into money and fame. He was used to the public eye being on him, he would survive it if they were to divorce. He would probably get out of it unharmed. He could not say the same about Jessica. She would probably be the most hurt.
The girls who go around having crushes on Xavier would victimize her both physically and online. She would be bullied big time.
“Let her do whatever she wants to do. I gave her an unlimited card. Let her shop and do what she wants to do. I am buying her time” Xavier said glancing at the image on screen.
He was barely interested in women but he must confess Jessica did have a charm. He had had the opportunity to see women of class and even celebrities but for some reason, she shone brightly.
“Are you sure?” Brian asked.
“Yes,” Xavier answers giving the iPad back to him.
“Can I tag along to the Gates event?” Brian asked. His wife was interested in the event and Xavier could be their free ticket to getting in the event.
“Sure” Xavier responded without looking up from the folder he opened.
“And Leslie too?” Brian said.
“Really?” Xavier said looking up at him.
“Do you think I want to attend the event?” Brian asked with a tone that said guess the answer.
“I do not know. Maybe you suddenly developed an interest in big events and parties” Xavier said looking back down at his work.
“Leslie wants to come,” Brian said point blank. He had learned in years of working with Xavier that he was a peculiar being.
“I do not think so,” Xavier said.
“I am so very sure she would be good company to Jessica while you are a jerk all night,” Brian said.
When Brian spoke to his friend he did not hold back on his words. He went all in with it. Xavier did not mind being called a jerk. He was used to being segregated by his mates because of his wealth.
“If it is for Jessica then I guess it is a good idea”
