Branch Fifty Six
Jessica had the meal ready in only three portions. The kitchen staff began to walk on eggshells around her. It was obvious she was angry with Xavier because she paid no attention to his meals.
Jessica served the table with Dawson, Genevieve, and her breakfast and then went to get them. Three of them sat down and began to eat but no one asked about Xavier why he wasn’t having breakfast with them.
Xavier came downstairs and entered the dining table area to see that there was no meal for him.
“Come have a seat, the chef would soon be done preparing your meal,” Jessica said a snicker following her sentence.
“I would not be having any breakfast” Xavier announced loudly.
“Oops, what do we do? I already instructed him to make a healthy and full breakfast for you” she continued in her earlier tone.
“Someone else can have it,” he said now getting irritated.
Not only did she leave him out of breakfast plans now she was trying to ridicule him in the presence of his family too.
“I remember someone who told me off for over-preparing a couple of meals. If you do not have it, every other person would be uncomfortable having it. Do you have to have it or else it would go to waste” she said before standing up.
“Isn’t the meal ready?” she asked putting her head through the head. “Then serve the meal. He must keep his body nourished for today’s work,” she added in spite.
The chef quickly brought out the entire full-course breakfast and laid it out on the table. Xavier sat and beckoned on the chef with his hands.
“I would not be having breakfast at home any longer. I would have to be going in for early morning meetings” Xavier said starting directly at Jessica. “So you do not need to make my breakfast again” he added.
“That is utter nonsense,” Dawson said. “Chef, do make his meals, he would join us for breakfast every morning and we would eat as a family TOGETHER” he added with emphasis on together.
Jessica smiled in her seat. One of the things she was grateful for was that Dawson always supported her no matter what it was. She was glad that this man who had a soft spot for his grandson had an even softer spot for her.
“You are dismissed,” Dawson said letting the chef go.
Dawson had no exact details of what had gone on but he was sure that Xavier was in the wrong and Jessica was only suffering from his poor parenting on Xavier. He had spoilt the boy too much.
“Thank you” the chef replied before leaving the room for them to continue with their breakfast.
Now that the chef had successfully served the meal he felt a sense of relief and he was to do this every day. How could he cope with serving him every day?
“Eat up,” Jessica said her voice portraying her spite.
Feeling very uncomfortable Xavier rushed his food and stood up without a word. He could not believe that this woman whom he picked up when she was stranded at the front of the courthouse would turn his family away from him.
Jessica was still sitting on the table downing her meal when her phone rang. She looked down at it and it was an unknown number. Afraid that it could be Burke again she let it ring and then she got a text from the number after the line got cut off.
‘Hello, Mrs. Delgado I am James and I am the realtor. Me. Delgado said I should show you some houses. Would today work for you?’
Jessica froze for a moment as she read the text. She felt a kind of warm feeling in her heart. Was he still this considerate of her? After all the stunts he pulled the last night? He remembered his promise to help her find a place for her business even after what he did.
Was he being considerate or was he rubbing it in her face that she was poor? She stood up and excuses herself from the table. She stood in the hallway leading to the living room and then dialed Xavier’s number. She needed to know the meaning of what he just did.
Xavier picked up the call and did not say anything. His breathing was steady and he was waiting for her to talk first. He felt bad about what he had done yesternight. No matter how he felt he shouldn’t have said the majority of the things he said. After all, he caught her still talking to her ex.
She had shown time and time again that she was not interested in him and that she still wanted her ex. Maybe that bruised his ego. Maybe he was hurt and surprised that she did not have a slight affection for him.
‘Why would that bother me?’ he asked himself internally.
Jessica took a deep breath after waiting a few minutes and he did not say anything.
“Hello Mr. Delgado” she said.
‘Mr. Delgado? Was this her way of telling him that she was still angry at him?’ he thought.Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
“Hello Ms. Joshua” he said. It takes two to tango and he was ready to do so even if it meant going on and on all day. She has been petty and even made him eat food she knew he did not fancy.
He used Ms for her to remind her that on paper and in the eyes of the law she might seem married but she was not. Jessica calmed her anger. She might end up losing out if she flared up at that time.
“I received a call from the realtor. What does this mean?” Jessica asked.
She did not know what it meant. Although he had said he would link her up with one. He decided to do it now on a day that they had a fight. Could it be him gloating? Or could it be an apology?
“What do you think?”
