A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 30 She Admits Her Mistake

Their eyes met.

Ranita couldn’t help but swallow her saliva. The man had just finished showering and was only wrapped in a bathrobe. Water droplets from his hair dripped onto his long neck and slid down the defined muscles into the robe.

The scent of cedarwood filled the air.

Ranita’s heart raced as if it were about to jump out of her throat! He was so close that she could see the sharp bridge of his nose when he lowered his gaze. His hot breath brushed against her earlobe, making her skin tingle with heat, like she had been rubbed with chili oil – burning hot!

Even through two layers of fabric, Ranita could feel the warmth emanating from him! It felt like a bundle of oily fire being poured over her body, leaving her mind blank and buzzing.

“Brendon… let go.” Ranita’s voice trembled uncontrollably.

She never expected Brendon to be in the room, let alone pinning her against the wall like this.

Brendon seemed surprised too. He stared at her for a few seconds with dark eyes before clearing his throat coolly, “What are you doing here?”

Brendon was taken aback. He heard some noise coming from the room after he got out of the bathroom and thought it was one of their maids sneaking in there! But as soon as they made eye contact, he recognized who it was right away.

He held onto Ranita’s soft wrist tightly while wrapping himself around her body. The familiar warmth and scent invaded all his senses at once.

Brendon felt an inexplicable flame ignite within him that left him feeling parched. His deep-set eyes flickered with hidden emotions like an abyssal pool stirred by waves beneath its surface.

Ranita forced herself to explain, “I came back to pack my things. I’m sorry for disturbing you.”

Her voice sounded cold now that things had turned sour again between them after meeting again so unexpectedly.

“I’ll leave now…” She didn’t finish speaking before Brendon tightened his grip on her wrist even more firmly.

“Why do you have to make things difficult for Shannon?” Brendon furrowed his brows deeply while speaking in an even colder tone than before.

Ranita’s emotions were in turmoil, and she couldn’t even feel the pain in her wrist anymore.

“Brendon, am I that disgraceful in your eyes?” she asked. This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.

“So you’re saying Shannon falsely accused you?” Brendon paused, his eyebrows furrowing even deeper. “Shannon is gentle and kind-hearted. She wouldn’t do something like this.”

Ranita looked calmly at Brendon. After three years of hard work, she was no match for one sentence from Shannon!

She didn’t see the point in arguing any further. “Brendon, since you’ve already made up your mind about the outcome, let it be!” Ranita struggled to free her wrist and glared at him. “Please let go!”

“What do you mean ‘let it be’?” Brendon’s anger was starting to boil over as he pressed closer to her. “Is it really that hard for you to admit your mistake?”

“Admitting my mistake isn’t hard,” Ranita said firmly and directly with a hint of choking sadness in her voice and misty eyes due to grievance. This was the first time she had been so vulnerable despite being composed when facing Brendon before. “But I won’t apologize to Shannon because I did nothing wrong.”

“I saw it with my own eyes! Why are you still trying to deny it?” The coldness of his tone was oppressive as veins bulged on his arm due to anger.

Ranita’s back hit the wall as he approached her aggressively; amidst the icy chill spreading through her body came a heart-wrenching ache.

She knew that if she didn’t admit fault now, someone would never forgive or forget what happened.

A bitter smile flickered across Ranita’s lips before fixing on him with a hoarse voice, “Brendon… I’m not denying anything anymore. I admit my mistake… can you please let me go now?”
