A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 291 Retreat as Advance

“Brendon… did you drink? Is there something bothering you?” Shannon reached out and hugged Brendon’s arm, not minding the smell of alcohol, and rubbed her face against his hand.

Brendon avoided her and took a few steps back. “Didn’t the doctor say you can’t drink now? I smell like alcohol, it’s better to keep your distance.” Brendon said. “Why don’t you rest at Boulderland Mansion? Aren’t you feeling unwell?”Content held by NôvelDrama.Org.

Shannon heard the impatience in Brendon’s words. Her face showed a hint of grievance, her eyes glistening with tears as she said, “But I’m more worried about you! I… I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to come over here. I’ll go back now.”

Brendon was usually good at hiding his emotions but with alcohol clouding his mind, he instinctively grabbed Shannon’s wrist and spoke in a low voice, “Shannon, there is something that I’ve been wanting to tell you but haven’t found the opportunity until now.”

“Brendon, what do you want to tell me?” Shannon leaned towards him with fragile eyes under the dim light which made people feel pity for her innocence.

“Shannon…” Brendon stepped back a few steps and let go of her hand. “I don’t want to say something irresponsible but… I’m sorry. I don’t want to divorce Ranita.”

What?! At this time when everything was so complicated between them, Brendon actually said he didn’t want to divorce Ranita?

What should she do?

Shannon felt twisted inside.

“Brendon… what are you saying? What am I supposed to do…” Shannon choked on her words unable to speak anymore as she suffered from great shock while holding onto herself tightly.

“I know it’s my fault for interfering between Ranita and yourself but it wasn’t intentional! You were drunk that night when things happened between us. I never thought things would get so complicated,” Shannon turned pale.

She held onto her stomach in pain as she continued speaking, “Brendon, this child really came at an inconvenient time. I will leave first.”

“Don’t worry about me, I won’t bother or pester,” knowing Brendon’s personality well enough, she decided on taking an approach where retreat was better than advancing.

She continued chokingly, “You explain things clearly with Ranita, and I’ll take care of this child. Just…our relationship since childhood, I hope it won’t change because of this incident.”

“Brendon, you’re still my favorite Brendon.”

Brendon’s cold heart was softened by her words. He had been under the influence of alcohol earlier, but now that he had sobered up, he knew it wasn’t the best time for a conversation. He pursed his lips and said, “Shannon, it’s late. Let’s talk about this tomorrow in detail, okay?”

“Did you come here on your own or did your driver bring you?” he asked.

Shaking her head, she continued with great consideration, “Brendon, you should go back and rest first! I feel at ease when I see you. I’ll go back on my own.”

After a pause, Shannon continued to show her gentleness, “I’m not one to pester someone relentlessly either. I understand your difficulties.”

“I’ll leave then.”

Shannon forced herself to smile.

But Brendon couldn’t bear it any longer and said, “Let me walk you out.”

The driver was waiting downstairs and helped Shannon into the car. Before they left, Brendon reminded him, “Drive slowly and take care of Shannon.”

As the car drove away from view in the rearview mirror, Shannon dug her nails into her palms until they hurt as she struggled to control her emotions.
