A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 257 Poor Acting Skills

Kora caught Chris giving her a signal and couldn’t tell if she had overpaid or underpaid for the necklace.

“3 million? Is that… too little?” The auction where Brendon bought Shannon’s necklace had a low starting price, but everyone knew it would sell for much higher. And this sapphire in front of them looked even better than that one. It was acquired from an auction in Europe ten years ago, and with its appreciation over the years, there was no way it could be worth only 3 million!

“Huh? Too little?” Kora laughed. “How could that be! I spent 3 million on this necklace when I bought it!”

Ranita chuckled. “Kora, you can’t calculate like that! High-end jewelry holds its value. What you paid for ten years ago is definitely worth more now if you were to put it up for auction.” This sapphire alone would fetch at least 10 million.

“Oh my goodness, how can we calculate like this? Things sold at auctions are definitely expensive… I just like you and don’t want to take advantage of your money,” Kora paused before adding. “Besides, you’re Chris’s friend. How could I ask for more money from you?”

Ranita had some money herself and could afford to buy the necklace at any price. But the price was too low, so she felt embarrassed about accepting it and turned to Chris for help, “Mr. Webster…”

In the end, with Chris’s mediation skills, they agreed on a compromise price of 6 million.

Ranita found Kora amazing – she wanted to give her money but wouldn’t accept it! And she didn’t seem desperate for cash either.

Halfway through dinner Ranita went to use the restroom.Content © provided by NôvelDrama.Org.

Kora grabbed onto Chris as soon as Ranita left, “What’s wrong with you?! How can you let her spend 6 million?”

“Auntie, what are you talking about?! Your acting skills are terrible!” Chris shook his head in disbelief.

“What do you mean my acting is bad? If I were an actress, then nobody else would deserve Best Actress except me!” After pausing briefly, Kora sarcastically added, “But seriously though why did we have to go through all these hoops just so you could give away your gift?”

“But that girl looks really pretty and has a good personality. I like her.”

Chris liked her too but knew she wasn’t interested in him.

“Forget about it. She likes someone else.” One sentence made Kora widen her eyes incredulously, “Are You kidding me? You haven’t even won over your own love interest yet here you are making me pay out my life savings?”

Chris wished he could shut her mouth right then and there.

He had originally planned to give it directly to Ranita, but Kora insisted on seeing the real person, which led to this scene.

“Kora, don’t you think she looks familiar?”

“Now that you mention it, she does.” Kora thought for a moment but couldn’t come up with anything and asked, “I can’t remember! If I had seen such a beautiful girl before, I would definitely remember.”

Chris was even more speechless.

“She’s from Brendon’s family,” Chris said with a bit of depression in his heart.

Kora was startled. “Ah? It’s her? Ranita… Oh! No wonder the name sounded so familiar!”

Kora slapped her thigh and smiled happily. “Chris, no need to worry. Last time I played mahjong with Amiya, she said Brendon divorced his previous wife and is preparing for an alliance with the Murphy family.”

“Isn’t this opportunity coming right at us?! Seize it!”

Chris looked at Kora hesitantly without speaking and just gestured for her to be careful not to say anything wrong in front of Ranita.

From afar, Kora saw Ranita coming back and secretly gave an OK gesture.
