Chapter 238 Divorce Cooling-off Period Expires
“Ranita…” Eve saw the lonely and sad look on Ranita’s face, and she took her hand with sympathy.
“Don’t listen to Shannon’s nonsense,” she said.
Ranita pursed her lips. “She was just talking rubbish. I only suffered some physical pain, nothing else.”
But what if Brendon believed it? Would he think less of her because of it?
“Ranita! Don’t worry about it. Shannon is a two-faced person who talks sweetly but stabs you in the back. Just ignore her!” Eve comforted Ranita and signaled to Dylan.
Dylan immediately handed over a rose, saying “Get well soon!”
The red rose was beautiful and vibrant, making Ranita blush as she tilted her head to say “thank you”.
“Don’t be so polite with us! You scared us these past few days; we’re just glad you’re back!” Eve paused for a moment before glancing at Brendon walking through the door, gritting her teeth as she said, “Rest up well. We’ll leave now.”NôvelDrama.Org holds © this.
“Why are we leaving when we’ve just arrived?” Dylan refused.
Eve glared at him, causing Dylan to obediently follow along.
The hospital room fell silent again.
Ranita turned over without looking at Brendon. Outside the window was pitch black darkness that reflected off of her blurry eyes filled with hidden sadness.
“Ranita…” Brendon grabbed hold of her hand. “Turn around.”
“I want to sleep,” Ranita hummed softly while turning away from him. “Don’t bother me.”
Brendon didn’t listen though.
He walked up next to her bed and crouched down while looking at her saying, “Are you angry? Shannon didn’t mean any harm. She’s worried about you too so don’t take it personally.”
Don’t take it personally?
Why not?
Just because she wasn’t important enough meant that Ranita had to silently endure everything?
She had already endured enough!
“Brendon, how do you know that Shannon didn’t mean any harm? Are you sure what your eyes saw and ears heard were true?” asked Ranita coldly.
Brendon raised his eyebrows seemingly confused by what he heard.
“You mean that Shannon intentionally targeted against you? That’s just how she is. I’ve known for more than twenty years now. She hasn’t changed since then. You must have misunderstood.”
Hearing this made Ranita feel powerless.
Their childhood friendship had been built up over many years – how could she compare herself?
The man’s palm landed on top of her head gently rubbing. “You’ve suffered enough these past few days. Rest well and don’t think too much.” He said softly before occupying half of the bed himself.
Ranita glanced at him, but said nothing. She leaned lightly on his shoulder and closed her eyes. Ranita was half asleep and couldn’t sleep soundly.
“I’m here, don’t be afraid.” His warm voice comforted her as he patted her back with his palm to soothe her.
After a while, the man reached out and wiped away the tears from the corner of the woman’s eyes.
Brendon could not forget what he saw when he pushed open the door – Ranita curled up in a mess, looking so pitiful and vulnerable. His heart broke at that moment; he wished that it was himself who suffered instead of her.
Brendon hugged Ranita tightly, feeling her warmth and tenderness in his heart.
Thanks to Steve’s help, Ranita managed to keep her pregnancy hidden. She wanted to tell Brendon several times but never had the courage to do so in the end.
Two more days passed without Shannon bothering them. Ranita slept or ate all day long; gradually regaining some color on her face but becoming increasingly restless inside.
On this day, Ranita woke up early – she was waiting for Brendon for a verdict.
But Brendon did not show up all morning; around noon she couldn’t resist calling him, “Brendon… do you remember what today is?”
Their divorce cooling-off period had expired. They were supposed to go together to apply for their divorce certificate.
