A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 175 Increasing Competitiveness

“Are you full?” Chris asked after several seconds of silence.

Ranita nodded her head and said, “Yes, I’ll take your information back with me and send it to you when it’s ready.”

Ranita drove herself home.

Chris leaned against the car door and handed Steve a cigarette along with a lighter. “Want to grab a drink?” he asked.

Steve took them both from him and nodded his head in agreement. “Sure.”

In the private room of the club house, Steve handed Chris a glass of alcohol while saying, “We have tomorrow off so let’s have one drink.”

Although Steve also had time off occasionally, he usually didn’t drink because who knew when an emergency surgery would come up?

“Is that okay? What if something comes up…” Chris hesitated before asking.

“I want to have one drink.” Steve insisted so Chris poured him one.

After drinking half of it down quickly, Steve looked at Chris eagerly before throwing out straight-forwardly, “Do you like Ranita?”Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.

Chris pinched his cigarette between two fingers as smoke billowed around him making his features hard to distinguish through its haze. “What about you?” He countered instead.

Steve laughed softly under his breath. “Chris… I really do like Ranita… and Brendon knows about this too. When they officially divorce, I plan on pursuing her. What about yourself?”

After Steve spoke, he looked at Chris with a piercing gaze, waiting for his response.

“Me?” Chris continued smoking, “You’re saying Brendon knows, and he didn’t punch you?”

“Not punch me, but he was quite angry!” Steve chuckled, maintaining a calm demeanor. “If you want to pursue her, go ahead, fair competition.”

Chris lowered his gaze, taking a sip of his drink. After a while, he finally replied, “Now is not the time to talk about this. I have my own moral boundaries.”

Upon hearing this, Steve chuckled softly once again, and in that familiar tone, he said, “You indeed seem to like Ranita as well.”

Chris looked up, meeting Steve’s eyes. Behind his glasses, Chris’s eyes, slightly distant, now shone brightly. It wasn’t an intense affection, but it carried a warmth.

They actually appreciated Ranita more. If Ranita hadn’t divorced Brendon, they would have wished them well and played the role of good friends. But since Ranita got divorced and was kicked out of Boulderland Mansion, they didn’t necessarily want to pursue her. They just wanted to show a certain attitude.

Although Ranita didn’t come from an outstanding background and was relatively weak in Kurima, she had friends around her. And because she was talented enough, even without Brendon, she wouldn’t lack high-quality suitors.

They wanted to help Ranita.

The two looked at each other and smiled.

They probably understood each other’s thoughts.

“Brendon is really something else! He has such a great wife but he still wants to mess around with Shannon!” Steve lit up a cigarette for himself and suddenly said, “Ranita doesn’t like men who smoke.”

“Should I quit then?” Chris put out his cigarette in the ashtray and started drinking small sips of alcohol.

“It’s unlikely that you’ll quit… You should be able to tell that Ranita likes Brendon but that idiot doesn’t know anything.”

Onlookers could see clearly that Ranita’s feelings for Brendon were deeply ingrained in all aspects of her life and work. If it weren’t for love, which woman could tolerate Brendon’s major flaw?

Chris chuckled lightly while propping his chin up with his hand. “Although that may be true, increasing competitiveness is also good!”

“Then I’ll quit too!” Steve quickly put down his cigarette as well, rinsed his mouth with alcohol before sighing, “I’ll increase my competitiveness too.”
