What Separates Me and You

Chapter 75 Most People Are Hypocrites

Josephine was a little stunned that she accidentally missed her mark while scooping the oatmeal into the bowl. Some splashed onto her hand, and the bowl almost fell into the pot.

She bore through the pain and placed the bowl on the table. She touched where she was burned and nodded at Lewis.

He would hear about every single matter in the office. It would not be strange even if he heard.

about the rumors of Mr. Hall.

Lewis said nothing further, and they ate in silence, only the sounds of their spoons scraping against their bowls.

After dinner, Lewis headed to the study. Josephine turned on the TV. She curled up on her couch and fell asleep. The couch was small enough to give her a good sense of security.

The next day, she went to work as usual. Word had already gotten around that she was mute. Everyone she met on the way to her desk cast strange glances at her.

The Alvarez Corp was such a huge company, and they were known for their strict hiring process. They would never hire a mute.

Some tried to approach and greet Josephine, but Josephine merely replied with a polite nod and smile, not bothering to spend more time with them.

They didn’t truly want to get to know her but were merely curious and wanted to see whether the rumors were true.

When a disabled person was living a tragic life, they would sympathize; yet when the disabled. person was doing okay or even better than them, they would think it as unfair, as if she was not qualified to be on the same level as them.

They would automatically feel that they were worse off than a mute, so they would want to kick her down to where they thought she belonged, then pretend to be sympathetic and loving to show that they were highly moral beings. 1

Most people were hypocrites.

Josephine arrived at the office. Before she could barely take her seat, Hilary came over with work for her to do. Since Lewis had given her his word the night before, Josephine was a little more courageous. She shook her head and refused.

She wrote a note. “Conrad should be the one who assigns me work.”

Hilary was a little stunned as she didn’t expect Josephine to dare refuse her. Thus, she said with a darkened expression, “I didn’t assign this to you. It was Miss King who did it! Since you’re in this department, shouldn’t you obey Miss King’s arrangement?”

Miss King was the manager of the secretaries. She had the same authority as Conrad. She and Conrad were Lewis’ right-hand men; apparently, she was even Lewis’ college mate.

If it were not for Sierra, most people would think Lewis was in a relationship with her.

Josephine pursed her lips and looked at the documents in Hilary’s hands. After a moment of silence, she stood her ground. “Then, it should be Miss King assigning it to me, not you.’

Hilary chuckled out of fury. Her tone started to turn hostile too. “What? How have you become so bold after only one night? Mr. Hall sure is treating you well.”

Josephine looked at her intensely. More accurately, she was looking at Conrad behind her.

“Hilary, if you feel you have too much time on your hands, do you want me to transfer you to a different department?”

Hilary jumped in fright. She immediately turned around and looked at Conrad nervously. “C- Conrad, why are you here?”

Conrad said, “I have work for Josephine to do. Why? Do you need her as well?”

Hilary chortled drily and said, “No, no. How would I dare take her from you?”

“I heard you saying that Miss King was assigning those works to Josephine?”

Hilary’s expression changed, silently cursing Conrad for overhearing what she said. Miss King. naturally didn’t assign any work to Josephine. She was merely using her name to give her work. to Josephine.

If word got out, she would offend both parties. Naturally, she didn’t dare to admit to it.

“O-oh, yes. Miss King did assign, but since I’m busy, I thought I could get Josephine to help.”

“What are you busy with, Hilary?”

“I-” Hilary suddenly felt that Conrad was deliberately making things difficult for her. He usually wouldn’t care about such small matters.

Seeing how she couldn’t answer, Conrad stopped what he was doing; if not, it would seem too deliberate. He said to Josephine, “Head to the President’s office. President Alvarez is looking for you.”

Josephine was a little surprised. Why would Lewis be looking for her? She got up and followed Conrad to the office. Conrad helped her knock on the door and got her to enter on her own.

Josephine pushed the door and entered to see Lewis on a call. She carefully walked over and stood in front of him, patiently waiting for him to end his call.

He was in a black shirt with the top two buttons unbuttoned. He supported his arm on the table while on the phone call, ambiguously exposing his chest.

She had seen him without clothes countless times, but never did it feel so seductive and attractive.

Lewis hung up and saw her looking at his chest. He gently knocked on the table, pulling Josephine back to reality.

Josephine immediately looked down to the floor, waiting for his instructions.

“Come over here.”

Josephine went around the desk next to him when she suddenly felt a pull from her waist and lost her balance, sitting on his lap.

She frantically tried to get up, but he held her tightly. He went in closer to her, his hot breath. on her nose.

He said, “You can have a better look this way.”

Someone’s going to come in.”

Lewis didn’t move. “Are you worried?”

Josephine was a little stunned. She looked at him in confusion but soon understood what she

meant.

Whether she should be afraid or not depended on his attitude toward the matter. If he never recognized their relationship, she would be the bitch that tried seducing everyone around the office, so naturally, she should be afraid. NôvelDrama.Org owns this.

Josephine avoided that topic. “Why did you call me?”

“I’m going on a business trip for a few days. Do you want to come with me?”

Josephine couldn’t believe her ears. Was he asking her to come along on a business trip instead. of Sierra?

Before she could answer, a knock came on the door.

Josephine immediately stood up and quickly retreated, putting some distance between them.

Lewis glanced at her before leaning back. He slowly buttoned his shirt. “Enter.”

It was the manager of the secretaries, Sophia King.

Josephine was shocked when she saw Sophia.

Sophia was gorgeous in a work suit with tidy curls on her head. She looked like she was in her

late twenties.

She was sensible, beautiful, competent, and charming, looking quite similar to Sierra, yet upon a closer look, she didn’t look like Sierra at all.

Josephine looked at Sophia’s face, and her mind went blank. A lot of fragmented memories flew across her mind so quickly that it became a bundle of mess.

Sophia noticed her and suddenly looked at Josephine. “A newcomer?”

Josephine came to her senses and tried hard to collect herself. She nodded.

Sophia pursed her lips and smiled. “I’ve been on a business trip for the past few days. How did I not notice a newcomer? President Alvarez, did you hire her yourself?
