Chapter 34
Emerald was lost for words. For days, she had been thinking about her nanny, Lucy, and the news that Liam had told her. She can’t comprehend everything in one go out of confusion. ‘Does Dad know about it?’ she asked herself before she shook her head and thought, ‘No, if he knew, he would never have let nanny Lucy leave our mansion. When it comes to money, he’s greedy and would want everyone he can use to be at his side.’
“If you are not going to work, why not just go home?” The voice of the man that she didn’t want to see or think about said, making her glare at him. “I had been standing here for minutes. You’re looking at me but never saw me. What do you think I will think when I was the one who was paying you to work?” Jace continued as he walked closer to her table.
“You know what, I think you’re right,” Emerald replied and got up.
“Where do you think you’re going?” Jace asked, confused.
“Home. I would rather stay there than see your face,” she replied. Jace’s face hardened. He didn’t like what she said, and even though he knew she was still angry at him, he didn’t want her to say such things to him.
“And then what, talk to your friend that you are having sex with?”
“I don’t think it’s any of your business.” Because of what she said, Jace grabbed her arm and pulled her closer to him.
“No matter what, don’t let me see you with that bastard. You’re still my wife, and I don’t want anyone touching what’s mine.”
Emerald smirked after he said, “Once upon a time, I may be yours, but not anymore. You don’t own me, and I don’t want you in my life anymore. Sign the divorce papers like I did, and we’re done.”Original from NôvelDrama.Org.
“You’re just saying that because of what I did. But I know deep inside, you still love me,” Jace replied. Their faces were close, and he didn’t let the chance go to waste to kiss her. Young Morgan tried to push him away, but just like what had happened in the green room, she couldn’t and kissed him back instead.
Jace wraps his hand around Emerald’s waist, pulling her closer to him until even air can’t pass between them. Young Morgan’s hands grabbed his shirt, holding on to him as she started to feel her knees weaken. “Admit it, Emerald. You want me as much as I want you. And I know I don’t need to force you if I want to take you right here, right now.” Jace whispered, making Emerald’s eyes widen.
Young Higginson pulled away before his wife could hit him on his chest. He caught her hand and smiled at her sweetly. “Am I interrupting something?” Asked, Kyle. Emerald looked behind Jace and found the man on her office door looking at them, confused.
‘Did he stop kissing me because he heard someone’s coming?’ young Morgan asked herself. ‘What’s happening to me that I didn’t hear it?’
“No, you can come in and tell us what you need,” Jace replied before he looked at his friend, with a questioning look.
“I was looking for you, and Nolan told me you were here,” Kyle replied,
“Why are you looking for me? Can’t you just say what you want?” Jace said, annoyed. He didn’t like that; he just disturbed him and Emerald, and he felt frustrated that he didn’t close the door when he entered.
“I am going to Indonesia by next week. It was supposed to be you, but I felt you were not going, so I appointed myself instead.”
“And?” Jace asked, raising a brow.
“You have to compensate me for this.”
“Wait, why would he not want to go?” Emerald chimed in, and the two men looked at her in disbelief.
“Isn’t it obvious? He didn’t want to leave you here alone.” Kyle replied, grinning.
“Get out now!” Jace said, waving his hand to the door while his friend gestured his hands in surrender as he started walking out of Emerald’s office.
“What are you waiting for? You can leave now, too.” Young Morgan told Jace when they were left alone.
“I will let you go this time, but when I heard you talking to another man saying words that should be meant to be mine”
“Don’t threaten me with your bullshit, Jace.” Emerald stopped him from talking. “Didn’t you forget? I already buried my love for you at the bottom of the Mariana Trench.”
“Then let’s die together. When you admit to yourself how you feel for me, I will dive there and be with you.” Jace replied before he kissed her again and left her office.
Emerald sat back in her office chair after the door closed. She started to hate herself for feeling uneasy and uncomfortable around her husband. She started to wonder whether she had made the right decision to work with him. Over the years, she kept herself busy developing games, if not playing with her son. And during those times when their company was starting, she did both. It was what she thought was why Ace loves games as well.
The day ended, and Emerald was thankful that Jace didn’t come back. Young Morgan went home, excited to see her son. “Mommy!” Ace exclaimed. He looked excited, making her feel very happy because she felt how much her son loved her. She opened her arms and hugged him as soon as she sat on the couch in the living room, where the boy was playing.
Emerald also noticed that these past few days, after she told her son about introducing his father to him, Ace was extra happy and lively. He would give her a massage, which only tickles her, or offer her refreshments or anything the boy thinks she likes. He would often ask her about her day, just like now.
“How was your day, baby?” Asked Emerald.
“Fine, mommy.” the boy replied, smiling, and started taking off her shoes.
“I can do that myself, baby,” she said, trying to stop Ace, but the boy insisted, so she let him and watched him.
“Preschool will start soon. Are you excited?”
“Of course, Mommy! It only means that I am going to meet new friends.” Ace answered. His smile was so wide that Emerald thought it would split her son’s face. As she remembered school, young Morgan thought she needed to buy a car and hire a driver for her son, so she made a mental note to do it the next day.
“M, you don’t need to get a driver. I can drive Ace and pick him up after school.” Daryl said when they were on their way to a car store. She asked him to send her there before he went to the ACEGame office.
“What about your work?” Emerald asked worriedly. She didn’t want anyone to neglect their duties in the office because of her or her son.
“It’s fine, M. You know that Creep and Elise will understand. Another thing is that it is safer if I am the one who will be driving for him and nanny Keng. We don’t know anyone here that we can trust.” Daryl insisted. Emerald sighed heavily, thinking her friend was right.
“But you must tell me if you have other things to do, so I will drive for him instead.”
“Deal.” Daryl agreed and continued driving to one of the car stores around their area. Emerald doesn’t care about the brand. For her, as long as it serves its purpose, it’s fine.
“You can leave me here,” Emerald said when they reached the store.
“Yes, if I won’t be able to bring the car today, I’ll just call for a cab.”
“Okay,” Daryl replied and started driving after Emerald exited his car.
Emerald’s eyes landed on a 4×4 white pickup as soon as she entered the store. Although she didn’t have any preference, she instantly liked it and thought that it fit her, so she approached it to have a look.
“Hi, ma’am.” The saleslady greeted her, and she returned the greeting with a nod. She was busy looking at the car and didn’t want anyone to disturb her.
“What do we have here?” The familiar voice made Emerald lookup and find Emerose and Merly. “Are you buying a car, little sister?”
“I don’t think it’s any of your business,” Emerald replied, raising a brow. “On the contrary, I wonder what you two are doing here. Oh, are you going to buy a car? As far as I know, you don’t have the capacity for that.” young Morgan added mockingly. She felt happy seeing how superior she was.
“What do you mean we are not capable?” Merly asked angrily, making Emerald laugh loudly. The saleslady who had greeted her started to feel awkward.
“Oh, don’t tell me you found another man who will buy you a new car?” Young Morgan asked.
“We are not like you, Emerald,” Emerose said with finesse. “Look at yourself. You were never like that. You’re nothing, and after five years, you came back with a lot of money. Where does your money come from, your sugar daddy? What would his family do to you once they found out about you?” Eldest Morgan added.
Young Morgan was about to reply, but a couple interrupted them. “You have a sugar Daddy?” asked the woman before covering her mouth with her hand.
“Oh, Mr. and Mrs. Higginson,” Emerose said, making Emerald look at the old couple.
‘That’s why they look familiar.’ she thought.
