Chapter 145
Her eyes shone with joy, and her smile was as radiant as a blooming flower. She made no secret of her infatuation for him. She wrapped her arms around his neck, stood on her tiptoes, and slowly leaned in to offer her red lips.
As she got closer, Everett caught a whiff of her perfume - a scent that was all too common and slightly overwhelming, snapping him back to reality. The woman in front of him wasn't Selena, but Lydia, dressed just like her today! Fury surged through him as he grabbed her wrists and pushed her away with force. His eyes were bloodshot, his voice low and controlled. "Get out!"
Lydia stumbled, almost losing her balance. She hadn't expected Everett to be so sharp in this situation, and her heart skipped a beat. But what was done was done. If she didn't seize this moment, she'd never get another chance to be near him.
She glanced up, noticing the veins bulging on his neck, his eyes red with suppressed emotion, and the tension in his muscles under his shirt. She swallowed hard. No woman could resist such a man. She could already imagine how desirable and sensual he'd be in such intimate moments.
Determined, Lydia clung to him again. "Mr. Bennett, Selena sent me to look after you. I know you're hurting. Please don't push me away."
"From the first moment I saw you, I've been drawn to you. Don't worry. Whatever happens is my choice, and I won't cling to you afterward, I promise!"
Her heartfelt confession didn't get through to Everett. All he could hear were those haunting words.
Selena sent me to look after you...
He gripped Lydia's wrist tightly, his eyes piercing, his voice as if it emerged from the depths of a dark abyss. "Selena sent you?"
He spoke each word deliberately, heavily. Lydia felt as though her wrist might snap, her face paling from the pain, but she dared not cry out because Everett looked terrifying. His gaze was like an axe dangling over her head.Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
All of Lydia's romantic notions evaporated, and she nodded shakily, "Yes, yes... Selena orchestrated everything. She wants a divorce, hoping to catch you in a compromising position to get more money..."
"But, Mr. Bennett, that's not my intention. I genuinely like you. I wouldn't-Ah..."
Before she could finish, he flung her aside without a hint of compassion, causing her to hit the wall and feel dizzy. Everett didn't spare her another glance as he strode away.
""Mr. Bennett..."
Lydia, unwilling to let go, could only watch as he stepped into the elevator. The doors closed as it descended.
Her fists clenched, her anger causing her chest to rise and fall rapidly. Who would benefit from Everett's situation now?
At least she wasn't foolish. She'd managed to clear her own name and pin the blame on Selena, with a story that made sense! She had overheard colleagues gossiping earlier in the breakroom about Selena's attempts to divorce Mr. Bennett, and how Derick had accidentally projected the divorce agreement during a meeting, sparking quite the buzz and speculation.
Bets were being placed on whether Selena could claim a portion of Mr. Bennett's assets! Most believed she couldn't. With no family and an uncle who couldn't support her, how could she possibly stand up to the mighty Mr Bennett? A single move from the CEO could crush her.
So, Selena was seen as willing to go to any lengths to get her share of the money. Lydia smirked coldly. If she couldn't have Mr. Bennett, then she would make sure Selena's dream of keeping her comfortable life as Mrs. Bennett went south!
She was determined to tear Selena apart, bit by bit!
