PART TWO
(The Alpha’s Mate and his Mistress)
THEME: The concern of a father
BLACK MOON PACK
(Avery’s Point of View)
The afternoon sun bathed the pack building in its warm light. Tiny specks of dust seemed to dance in the shaft of afternoon sunlight that slanted through the window. I stood there glancing out through the window, looking at the pack building that were visible to my eyesights. I watched until it was evening time.
The door cracked open but I didn’t turn to look. Soon I felt a hand snake around my waist and hot breathe flamed on the sensitive spot on my neck.
“Are you ready to go for a walk with me?” Kayden asked, kissing his way around my exposed neck.
I dropped his hand from my waist and turned to face him. “What took you so long?” I asked with a frown on my face.
“Did you miss me that much?” Kayden smirked.
I stepped away from him. “Of course not, I was.. just waiting for you to come take me out for a walk.” I answered.
Kayden pulled me closer to his body. “I know I promised to be back sooner but I just got swamped with the pack works.” He had an apologetic look on his face.
“Alright.” I managed to smile.
“Are we good?” He asked.
I nodded my head positively. Kayden had promised to go for a walk with me to show me around the pack and introduce me to his people who are very important in the pack as his Luna.
Young Luna? I still found it strange when the maid who served me breakfast called me by that title this morning. I tried to correct her to simply call me by my name but she rejected it stating that she would be penalized for it.
Young Luna still sounded strange in my ears but I hoped to get use to the life of being a Luna of a pack.
Kayden kissed my forehead. “We should have dinner before heading out. Mother invited us to taste her new recipe.” Kayden held my hand in his and kissed our locked hands.
“Should we turn down her invite?” Kayden asked.
It seemed like he was doing everything to make me comfortable and also give me a chance to make my own decisions.
“No, let us have dinner with her. I am hungry.” I answered.
“Are you sure?” Kayden caressed my cheeks with his knuckles.
“It won’t be nice to turn down a food invite.” I joked earning a chuckle from Kayden as we moved out of the bedroom.
“Hey Avery.. why did you stay all day in your room?” Luna Beatrice asked.
“I am sorry.. I was just studying.” I apologized as I settled close to Kayden.
Luna Beatrice flashed me a bright smile. “It’s alright. I was just bored in the pack house so I decided to try out some new dishes from my recipe book.” she said, pointing to the table laden with all sorts of food I could not decipher.
“This is nice.” I commented.
We were just few people at the table. Alpha Alex Scott, Luna Beatrice and Katherine whose hands moved over her protruded belly.
“Are you alright?” Kayden asked his sister.
Alpha Alex Scott dropped the book he was reading when he heard Kayden question. He had acted like I was not in the room when I stepped in with Kayden but now there was a concerned look on his face towards his daughter.
“Is it time for the baby’s arrival?” Alpha Alex Scott asked.
It reminded me of my father when my sister was pregnant. Everyone heads snapped up at him.
“Are you alright?” Alpha Alex asked again.
“Father, I am still few weeks behind. Please can you stop acting like you are the one pregnant? Even my mate is not as worried as you are about the baby.” Katherine answered and they all bursted into laughter.
“I care so much about you, Katherine. And I am really anxious about meeting my first grandchild.” Alpha Alex Scott chuckled.
Even though the Scott had accepted me as their son’s mate, I still feel like I am walking on egg shells around them especially Alpha Alex.
The look on his face says that he wouldn’t have accepted me if having a mate wasn’t important to a werewolf. And I understand why? One, my pack had an history with Black moon pack since the war. Two, I didn’t want to accept my mate who I almost rejected. Whatever silent treatment I was getting from Alpha Alex, I truly deserved it.
And I would take it as a punishment for almost rejecting my mate. My wolf did find me guilty too.
I felt a warm touch on my bare thighs, jolting me out of thought. I looked sideways to see Kayden grinning at me.
“Avery, what would you like to have?” Luna Beatrice was standing up ready to serve me.
I found out that I was the only one left yet to have food on my plate. Aish! Did I get lost in thought for that long?
I stood up too. “You don’t need to worry about me. I can do it.” I tried to stop her from dishing out my food.
“Please take a seat, Avery.” Luna Beatrice spoke softly.
I looked down at Kayden, he gestured to me to sit down and I did.
“Here you go.” Luna Beatrice passed my dish to me.
“Thank you.” I bowed my head slightly in appreciation.
“You are welcome, Avery. Please let us eat.” Luna Beatrice asserted.
Alpha Alex Scott cleared his throat. And my heartbeat when he called out my name. “Avery,”
I looked up at him. “Yes.. sir.”
“So I was just thinking about how you would shuffle schooling far from our pack and getting to see your mate more often.” He stated, wiping his mouth gently with a napkin.
I exchanged glances with Kayden. “I-”
“Alex, it’s not time to discuss this.” Luna Beatrice said but the alpha waved her off with a gesture.
“What? I just want to know about her plans. She can’t possibly ignore her mate just to study. They have to remain connected.” Alpha Alex countered and waited for a response from me.Belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
“Actually.. I haven’t thought about it yet.” I admitted sincerely.
Alpha Alex Scott leaned forward and placed his elbows on the table. “How about you wolves complete the mate bond and get married. That way my son can be safe and I can also believe that you are serious about this mating of a thing since you never wanted it.” Alpha Alex Scott had a scornful look on his face as he stared at me.
I thought of what to say. Even though I had so many things running through my mind but I couldn’t make them into words at that moment.
“Father, don’t worry about it. Avery and I already discussed things. We have a plan.” Kayden spoke up, lisping slightly.
My head snapped up to look at him. My mate smiled and slowly his hand reached out for my fiddling fingers under the table. And his touch helped me to feel relaxed.
“Are you sure about that? Or you are just trying to defend her actions and stop me from further questioning her?” Alpha Alex Scott asked leaning back into his chair.
“Father, trust me we have a plan.” Kayden repeated.
We don’t have a plan! I know the real answer to alpha Alex question. Kayden was trying to defend me just to make his father stop questioning me. As my mate he could sense my discomfort.
And I couldn’t blame the big alpha, he was just concerned about his son who would take over the leadership of the pack when he was too old to handle things. What’s an Alpha without his Luna by his side?
“Alright, I will let you wolves decide this time. But if I don’t see your plans coming into action soon, I won’t hesitate to step in.” Alpha Alex Scott uttered in a harsh tone.
“Alright father.” Kayden replied maintaining his usual countenance.
The rest of the dinner went by in silence until Alpha Alex raised a question about what was best from the request of another pack to deal in supplying them some materials to complete a building project they were working on.
They all had a random discussion about the pack affairs. Each of them were solely involved in running the pack, even pregnant Kate was still handling the pack’s finances.
I sat there listening to them having a conversation about tasks and things to be done to help the pack. It has always been like this since I was little up to now. I was never involved in pack affairs back home and I began to doubt if I would do a good job at it when I finally become the Luna of this great pack.
And was I really ready for this position? I pondered.
The moment we stepped out of the pack house, the cool evening breeze tickled my cheeks and I tucked my hands into the pocket of my sweatshirt to try to keep it warm. Everywhere was so cold as if it had rained earlier one but none of that happened.
“Are you okay?” Kayden asked.
“Yes.” I muttered in a sour tone.
“Good to hear that. I want you to be fine.” Kayden smirked and I followed him down the porch steps.
“I am going to introduce you to my soon to be Beta, his name is Ethan. He is at the training ground working with the pack warriors.” Kayden pointed in the direction we were walking although I could sense that the training ground was pretty far off.
I nodded and studied all the busy wolves bustling around to get whatever done. They stopped and greeted with their heads bowed slightly as they passed by us.
